Today, we'll take a look inside the Spyderco Endela, and discover that it's just about the same, and just about as as annoying to take apart, as the Delica and Endura. surprisedpikachu.jpg

I disassembled my Endura ZDP-189 and couldn't out it back together for the life of me. I put everything in a zip lock and threw it in a drawer in my man-cave. Thank you for helping me get it put back together!!!! 😁😁😁

That mark is from the end mill used to machine it. The way that happens is that the tool is really dull or they were machining it fast, I'd say fast.

It makes sense for that to be coarsely machined by spec. It's not a bearing or dimensionally important surface. Real engineering vs jewelry engineering.

One trick I’ve always been meaning to showcase: Reassembling a Delica or endura by fully building the handle, then using a rubber band to depress the lockbar. From there you slide the blade and washers into place and pop the pivot in. Simply remove the rubber band when you’re done ^_^
@kymcopyriot97762 жыл бұрын
As some others have mentioned, the witness marks on the flat of the pivot are most likely the signature of a worn milling tool that should have been replaced, as well as a machinist/machine using the wrong (too fast) feed rate.

Goes to show that Spyderco's quality has gone downhill

My lw police 4 k390 has a metal/aluminum removable pin not a fixed plastic 🤔 still a pain in the ass. But thanks to Nick I got it back together 👍🏻 thank you again sir for your videos.

Markings on the pivot just look like tool marks from where they have milled the flat portion. If that is correct, it's pretty rough machining although I suppose tolerances on that flat aren't super critical.

Thank you so much Nick. I was really getting frustrated with that lock bar. I knew that there had to be an easier way to reassemble the knife. After watching your video, I had it done in 90 seconds.

It’s not every day that you get a Malvina Reynolds reference in a knife disassembly video, but today is that day!

Holy crap, I thought I'd never get mine back together - that damned lock bar. Thanks Nick!

Thanks for getting that song stuck in my head again… It’s been stuck in my head for over thirty years now… and I thought it had finally left. “Little houses made out of ticky tacky…” Arg!

Something I find very interesting about the pivot: "Normal" pocket folders: go as lose without getting bladeplay Balisong folders: go as tight without losing freeness...

The endela is closer to the endura, but they are each their own.

There is a better way, as you only have 2 thumbs, need 3. Reassemble as you did, keep knife open (tape blade). Install the lock bar into the knife, hooking the bar into blade and zip tie around the knife, holding it in. Now simply push on the back of the lock bar until the pivot holes all line up, pop the pivot pin in. Reassemble and cut the zip tie. Done. As far as centering, you just need to place the knife on a small dowel middle of the scales and bias the knife (bend it) the correct way a tiny bit and your centering will be perfect. Before you spit at all this, just try it, its super simple and makes servicing the Delica family a breeze.

Hi Nick, do you think Spyderco is overdo for a gen 5 of the delica/endura line? Possibly adding a forward finger choil to the design (e.g., like the Byrd line equivalents)? Thanks!
@CNYKnifeNerd2 жыл бұрын
No. Are the 37 comparable models with finger choils not enough? Not having a choil is a defining feature of the endura/delica, like the military not having a compression....... Oh, damn.

That little plastic pin got was too short on one side for me. After putting it back together it keeps popping of of its hole on one side causing the spring to be weak. Hoping new scales will be better made and sturdier that these plastic frn scales

I'm a machinist and that's what happens when you go too fast and or have worn tooling or possibly some looseness somewhere. Considering these are mass produced even if In japan yeah that's expected.

Well this is all your fault. I saw the zdp189 vid. With the Delica. So all I here you say is how spicy the Delica is. So I drop the cash and now the dark green Delica won’t get outa my pocket. Can’t even god y Hinderer or CRK.

Worse thing about the Delica family is that cheap plastic backspacer. The whole family is long overdue for an upgrade especially considering the price they are now, Chaparral construction at minimum

Man this backlocks are really weak! If you look on a Cold Steel, the bar is so deep in the blade tang not Like here or in any other Back lock. Stoppin or not, Cold Steel Back lock is almost half centimeter into the blade tang!
@jlan1232 жыл бұрын
I've wanted to use cold steels several times but found their backlocks too stiff. Actually hurts my finger after flipping a couple times.
@lionknives32 жыл бұрын
@@jlan123 I know my Recon 1 was the same! Leave it half way open over night and add some oil on the tang of the blade where the bar is moving along. I can flick open it now.
@jpolhamus712 жыл бұрын
@@jlan123 the stiffness will go away i had the same problem with my voyager xl but using 2 hands to open and close multiple times plus what @lionknives said about leaving blade open works so well I can now thumb flick the voyager xl open easier and closing has become so easy I love to carry and use it more often
