Nick came prepared to do battle with the Red Loctite Devil, but instead he found another horror awaited him. The fearsome Gunk Golem had done its work to the knife. The battle that ensued was truly a test of Nick’s Resilience

I recently picked one of these up at Wal-Mart on clearance for $13, and honestly i really like it. I took it apart and cleaned/lubed it up also. Just like yours, my blade centering was CRAP when i reassembled it. Thanks for the video, I'll adjust the g10/liner screws and try to get it to a reasonable condition. Thanks again, I'm a big fan!

Thank you for your video. I had never taken my knife apart. It was gummed up and I found the factory had set both washers on the same side. I was able to clean and reassemble my knife successfully (after a search and rescue for the stop pin 🙄). I used some Ballistol to clean and lube.

I recently received a new, black FRN resilience model (Dec 3, 21). I found this video and decided to disassemble my brand new Spyderco. I am very pleased to announce that I found two phosphor bronze washers on the knife that are much thicker than the ones shown in this video. Also, there are no nylon washers included with my knife, just the bronze. So it appears that Spyderco has improved the construction of this model.

I just took my Resilience earlier tonight (04/16/2023). You can clearly see the Sanrenmu influence. I have a bunch of Real Steel knives, Ruike knives and SRM knives. The barrel, blade stop, and liners of the Resilience are obviously from Sanrenmu.

I like my resilience. I’ve tuned and polished all of the parts that move, and it’s resulted in a guillotine like drop shut action- in a 40 dollar spyderco. It’s pretty great

I wonder if I could replace that extremely thin washer/teflon combo with a nicer thicker bearing….. I recently purchased a lightweight model with a CPM S35V blade. I’ve received custom micarta scales, a titanium hardware set and a deep carry titanium pocket clip. Although I have the proper lubes and am ready to modify..after seeing all of that corrosion.. I think I’ll order some Frog Lube first. Thanks as always for your thorough disassembly video.

Sometimes if you shim the blade to center with something like toothpicks or folded pieces of paper you can then crank the scale fasteners tight and lock it centered.

Nick, immediately after I watched this video I watched your "Reducing your suffering in loving Gear and Gadgets" video from awhile back. I've watched that video a few times now, but this time it spurred a thought/question. Have you ever bought something, but have been scared or reluctant to love it because of the price tag or other factors? I recently did this when I purchased my first custom knife. I immediately saw all the faults and was contemplating selling it the very same day. Just wondering if you have any thoughts on this. Thanks.

Any advice on how to get a screw loose that's been loctited too much? That's the way it came from spyderco, they all had red loctite on them, but the middle screw on the lock side didn't come out like the other ones. I tried grabbing the standoff with pliers, but it still spins, and I've tried heating up the screw and standoff. I would like to be able to take off the scale because I want to put some wood scales on that I made.
@mrblauer1
@mrblauer1 6 жыл бұрын
I would try using a good double stick tape like carpet tape between the standoff and the pliers jaws. Padding the pliers jaws first with thin cardboard may also help gain traction. Wood scales rock! Good luck.

Bronze doesn't rust . The green sludge is caused by a chemical reaction between the copper and the atmosphere . The green is most often Copper Carbonate . Amazing that the knife still worked with all than gunk jamming up the works .

Having disassembled a brand new Resilience, I can confirm that the screws appeared stained red but offered zero resistance. So, I figured that it had either been grease or rust rather than loctite or maybe it had baked in the sun The one point en route from China.

I agree, however, on mine there was one screw that continues to be glued shut to this day. All the other ones came out fine with no real resistance. I guess that speaks to that one screw's resilience ;-)

The Tenacious has those same micro liners. Except no Teflon washers. I was blown away when i later disassembled other knifes... That i realised how cheap that knife was made.... And how i wasted $40 lol. The Spyderco Tenacious....It was the knife that because of its unbelievably shitty construction caused me to buy a Ontario rat 1 which in turn turned me on to buying, using and semi collecting pocket knives. God damn Tenacious......

@@aboyboss1 unfortunately your options are slim. Either try tapping the screw hole to a slightly larger size and find a new screw that will fit or send it in to spyderco which is what I would recommend.

hello, just leaving this comment to let people know that the spyderco tenacious does not have phosphorous bronze washers on teflon washers but indeed very thin phosphorous bronze washers on thicker phosphorous bronze washers. found that really weird when i took it apart, found it even more weird after seeing this video and the resilience having bronze And teflon washers.

A liner lock is cheap, simple to manufacture, reasonably secure, easy to use, and with a normal amount of dexterity safe to operate. I got my first liner lock knife about 5 years ago and they really are simple to use, iv'e cut myself my fair share but never because of the lock, and I played with that knife a disturbing amount

"Nick Nick, There is nothing wrong with the knife just because its made in China Nick , I own a Resilience and its hands down the best value folder I do own. I also think that right and wrong existed way way before us Humans came to be and so universal ethics is beyond Human influence, well for the time being anyway". More simply put Nick then I will just say "reason should never be argued with" and just because us Brits and you Americans may be at war with China within the next fifteen years I still feel it reasonable enough to spend less money for something great while being inclined also of the knowledge considering what those little slant eyed sonsa bxxxxes are up to , engineering wise. "Hey Nick " they got Huawei , I got Spyderco, from the spying perspective that is. And I saved a few quid also. .............................. Its a great knife man, be reasonable Nick and own that sxxt, its constructive Nick", productive or whatever you wanna call it. He smiles , me that is.
