Dude THANK you so much for airing this, my fan was so stuffed up with disgusting dust that the fastest setting was as if it were on the lowest setting- and the lowest setting was barely a breeze. I use my tower fan for white noise at night. You seriously are doing the lords work. I fixed my fan and correctly assembled it and I usually break everything I touch. When I plugged it in I thought it was broken because it was so quiet. Hahaha. Many thanks 🖤

Nice set of instructions. They were very helpful. I would like to add on small point. On my unit, the fan motor had a bearing on the tip of the shaft that inserts into the motor's windings (inside the fan motor). The bearing is not immediately obvious. After I had some fan noise on reassembly, I noticed that the tip was rounded. It was actually a bearing that was frozen in place. I slid it across a piece of newspaper a couple of times and the bearing fell out. I cleaned the shaft, the bearing, and reassembled everything with fresh lubrication. The fan was perfect again. Thank you. Without all of your detailed instructions, I would probably have ended up throwing the fan out. I hope my tip saves someone else some more time.

Hi, I found my tower fan in the dumpster. It was very dusty to the point where the fan blade wouldn't turn. Just cleaning all the tons of dust out of the housing and blade was enough to allow the fan blade to turn again. Next, I lubricated the motor. As you've learned, WD40 is not what you need to use to lubricate a fan motor. What you need is a proper electric motor lubricant, not spray-on lithium grease. You need something like Zoom Spout oil, an oil made specifically made for oiling electric motors. I got mine at Lowes. Regards, Tom

Thank you for the video, I followed step by step and it worked. The only problem I had was not able to lossesn one screw on the motor so I just sprayed the shaft and in between motor halves. It works wonderful

Forget the vacuum. I put my fan blades in the shower. You'd be amazed how much dirt comes out. I did both grills too. Just avoid hitting the electrical areas and thoroughly air dry everything before assembly and using.

Thanks for the info. I take fans apart all the time that are serviceable. I just took my Aloha fan apart. I lubed all of the bushings with drops of 30 weight engine oil. Similar to three in one oil maybe a little thicker. Before service no matter what speed it would take a long time for the fan to pick up RPM. After the service it turns on instantly any of the three speeds full speed right away. Tomorrow I'll take it to work and blow all the dust out of it with compressed air. A neighbor just threw out 2 small floor fans. They look like brand-new and we're still clean. One of them made a squealing noise I took it apart and oiled the bushings. I did the other one just in case. Both are extremely quiet and smooth now. Old school.. Service it! don't throw away and replace it.

@@Stormy4757 Of course unplug it first... Most electric fans can be disassembled very easy with a screwdriver. Just look at the spinning center shaft where it goes through. Using gravity add a few drops of oil and spin the propeller/fan blade flip it over and lube the other side of the shaft. Wipe off the excess oil and put it back together.

at 5:56 minutes he removes the screw near the motor, For my Vornado tower fan there is No need to take the bottom screw completely out of the cylinder at the motor end - just loosen it and then remove the top two screws and slide carefully and it will lift out. I was taught that by a nearby helpful neighbor. I was having trouble removing that lower screw since I am over 70 years old. He advised me when I am placing it back to be sure to tighten the bottom screw on the FLAT end of the bottom

thanks for the video, I have the exact same fan and it has made noise for quite a while until it finally stopped. I started taking it apart after watching your video but I could not get the bottom screw out that holds the fan in so I sprayed some lube on the shaft on top of the fan and on the bottom, plugged it in and turned it on and it works like new. I sprayed on a little more lubricant, cleaned it as good as I could and put it back together. Right now it is running as quiet as ever. I found this fan in an empty apartment I had to do some work on and I think they left it because it was making funny noises. Now it's as good as new. thanks again.

I must not have sprayed enough grease on mine because not too long later it started making noise again but this time no matter what I did I couldn't get the metal motor housing to come apart, not to mention it was red hot. It much have overheated and causes the metal to expand enough to make it not want to come apart. Unless you have a really good oil made for applications like this I think it's a good combination to use both the grease and wd40 together as the grease is thicker and lasts longer but gets dry and I've found in other situations spraying the grease first and then spraying wd40 over it soaks into the grease and keeps it soft and lubricated. But I'm glad this video has helped other people fix their fans and hopefully I can find myself a nicer new one this spring.

Spraying oil on without disassembling usually lasts a little while, then makes things worse. Mixing different kinds of lubricants often causes them to harden. You need to take it apart and clean out the old lubricant, unless you know exactly what they used.

Never use spray lube as it is really a displacement spray and will make things worse in the long run. You need to disassemble it and use real lube. I used automotive bearing grease.

This video gave me the confidence to open my 3 year old Lasko that was squeaking like crazy. The motor it a bit different; rather than opening the whole thing up I just dripped 3-IN-ONE small motor oil around the shaft at the top of the motor. I also dripped it around the metal shaft at the top of the fan cylinder. My fan is now clean and quiet as the day I bought it!!! 30 minute update: not worth the time or effort. It has already started squeaking again. I guess 3 years is the life span of these fans; this Lasko was the highest rated when i bought it, April 2016, and it has run almost constantly since. RIP in pieces.

That sounds similar to my situation. I have a Lasko tower fan I bought to replace the one in this video and after having it for 3 years it started squeaking so I wanted to do the same as I did with this one. Unfortunately I didn't have a screwdriver thin and long enough to get to a few torx bits they've made hard to access so instead of buying a different screwdriver or elongating the holes I just drilled access holes in the plastic shell where the top of the fan spindle sits in the bracket and sprayed it with lithium grease and then dripped some 3 in 1 oil on it and it's been quiet since. At some point I'll still want to completely take apart the fan so I can give it a good cleaning and better lubricate it. Much better than spending another $60 to get another one that'll do the same down the road.

Nice presentation. My Lasko tower fan warns to never try taking this fan apart. It badly needs a deep cleaning. A Honeywell we owned had snap-off exterior cages(?) and was so easy to clean. I will probably have to buy compressed air in cans and hope to dislodge the dust.

There is video on there a gentleman shows how to use a water with the barrel spinning cleans up really good 😅 caution though 😰you could ruin it though😢here's what you could try first tape up the components I put foil over them first then plastic on top of that the lady's have that in their kitchen or you buy it at the crockery store probably in the baking ile 😅the idea here is to keep everything dry 😰I also took off the control panel and with it hanging out and down by the wires. It was easer to keep dryer😅tk

We are in a heat wave right now and I need the fans to work. I've tried vacuuming the blades and the casing itself, but it's hasn't helped much.

+Mr Everything Nice. That's on an Aloha Breeze 34" Remote Control Tower Fan. I have that tower fan. It's out in the garage and the problem is that it oscillates and stops. My Grandmother got the same kind as well at a Good Will store like probably a week ago and it doesn't oscillate anymore. Can you take a video of how to replace the Synchronous Motor that controls the oscillation? The Synchronous Motor is a small motor and it's below the big motor that controls the fan speeds and the fan modes and it's inside the bottom of the tower fan. I want to find out how to fix it.

+Mr Everything Update: My Aloha Breeze 34" Remote Control Tower Fan has the motor that controls the oscillation worn out. This happened to me a bit earlier tonight right after I got home from my Grandparents' house. I also have an Aloha Breeze 32" Remote Control Tower Fan (Black) that is doing the same thing. That happened to me right after I woke up between Tuesday, 6/4/2013 and Friday, 6/7/2013. I got another one like that 2 years later (This year) on Thursday, 10/22/2015 from eBay and it arrived on Wednesday, 10/28/2015 (Right close to Halloween). That one is working and oscillating properly. It is in "Used - Very Good" Condition when I got it on eBay less than a month ago. For the ones with the oscillation worn out, how do I fix or replace the motors that control the oscillation?

This will help me Ton cuz i tried opening our fan last month son uses cuz its super filthy and i clean and vaccuum it weekly and TRIED to clean the inside b4 but i couldnt figure out how to remove the main spinning piece without fucking up or breaking the fan haha BUT, i also am not used to cleaning these types because o usually by the regular lasco tall fast fans cuz im ALWAYS HOT from my lupus and fibromyalgia. Just remember wd40 is NOT a lubricant this is a very common mistake people make, it is a water displacement fluid ;) what it does best is loosen rusted bolts or help start an old car distributor, just NEVER use as a lubricant eg spray in car door lock because all it will do is remove any OIL in the lock then go dry then you will have to replace the lock as it grinds away metal against metal.

If this doesn't work you can purchase bearings on amazon or search bearings on google. Even though my bearings seemed cleaned and smooth they still made this noise when i reinstalled everything. To replace the bearings check and look on the bearing itself. There should be the "make" on top and the size at the bottom of the bearing. They usually run 5 to 10 bucks for a lifetime supply of ten or more. They are usually universal, mine being 608zz.

Recently lubricated mine. I used gun oil which IME works amazing on electric motorized items. Runs smooth as glass. It's a fairly well-made brushless motor so it should last a long time. I also wonder how well chainsaw bar oil works since it's designed for fast moving metal parts. Those are the two types of oil I keep readily available.

Can still feel the air moving well 6 feet away, which is farther than I would expect from a desk fan. My daughter dropped twice and still works. I haven't checked out how long it lasts on a charge yet, but the air output was still good for the few minutes it was unplugged. My daughter also likes the color lights feature, but I don't really care for it and can be annoying to go through all the options before it turns off. Overall, happy with the purchase, especially for the price

You could try using a thin butter knife start with a real small screw driver to get a little gap going then progress to the knife and then while pressing in careful its just plastic then you should also make shure that all the screws are removed tk

I'd try plugging it directly into the wall if you're using an extension cord or a different outlet. If it still does it there's probably something wrong with the fan itself. You could try leaving it on Low and seeing if it can run smoothly but it might just be worn out.

Damn, the manufacturer told me the best way to clean the tower fan was to air out the dust with air (aerosol duster and/or air compressor)🤔🤔🤔

I've dissembled my tower fan..but the problem is now the motor when in place and screwed in has not much power..the dial has the goto 3 to start it instead.of the normal 1..I only had 3in1 oil is this the problem do you think

loner boner On my fan the outside casing probably had the deepest screws which were still only maybe 1.5 to 2 inches recessed into the panel which most screwdrivers should be much longer than. A longer, thin screwdriver would probably be a bit more helpful to get to the screws on the backside of the motor assembly to keep your hands from trying to fit into the tight space but you may need a longer screwdriver if your fan is different than mine.

I used lithium grease in a spray but I don't really like how it goes on so I would probably recommend using a thicker, wipe on grease for areas you can reach and a spray oil like WD40 for tight areas you can't reach

I was trying to get the bottom screw from where the motor is connected to with that vent airway but I couldn't. I got the top two screws out and was able to move it more but I couldn't take it out because the bottom screw where the motor is hooked up to has a weird screw that was giving me a hard time to take out. I tried to pry the screw out with a pair of pliers but no luck. And I don't have a drill either.

WD40 is a pretty terrible lubricant. If you don't mind spraying it on once a week it will be okay. But that's pretty terrible. It's meant to clean not lubricate.

Well, I have a very different tower fan. It is the Seville model 101878. I don't see any easy way to open it. The screws just don't seem to come out. My problem with it is the spinning cylinder rattles inside 7 it does not oscillate, but the fan works well & it is clean. Any ideas about how I can get it to stop raddling & of course how to open it??

The current tower fan I have has recessed torx screws that require you to have a long shank torx driver which I don’t have so what I did was got a drill and drilled out the plastic in a few spots where I could see the shaft that comes out of the motor and at the top where the other shaft is held and was able to spray compressed air to clean out most of the dust and then sprayed some lithium grease on the shaft and then tried to get a few drops of oil on the moving parts and it fixed my problem without having to actually take the fan apart.

@@Mr.Everything I can't do that with this fan. Also, it works well except for oscillating, but what is the problem, is the spinning centerpiece rattlers. I see no way to open this tower fan. I can't get the screws I can see to move. I tried with different screwdrivers & manage to get only 1 of the 4 screws out. I gave up trying to open it. I just wanted it to stop rattling... Can't do it. Not an easy tower fan to open. Some R easier to open party. I had another 1 I could open all but 1 screw which had a tringle type head I couldn't get to turn. Not like a Philips screwdriver. Looed like a special type of screw they create so u either dump the fan & buy a new one or try to find the tool to remove the 1 screw. I cleaned it as best I could with the screw still intact. I couldn't get it to spin. A piece of a plastic ring was broken. I fixed the ring but the cotter pin I couldn't put on anything so it does not oscillate at all, but it is clean & does blow air... I wish i could fix the Seville 101878, but it just isn't in the cards,

Depending on how old it is you could see if the store you bought it from still sells that model. Otherwise I'd check eBay to see if there are any matches.

I accidentally disassembled the gear system of the fan, that's attached to a regulator. Any help with that? Anyone? I don't really understand which gear goes where now.

Yeah if it has the Oscillator type the Oscillator goes on the end of the assembly or at the bottom tk

Don't use WD-40 to lubricate mechanical parts. It's not exactly a permanent lubricant, it's just to clear water particles and clean rust to help get things unstuck.

I have 16 Bionaire tower fans, usually stored in my basement except for 3 months of the year that I use them. Birds nested in the overhead ducts in the basement and left a nice layer of foul fowl pooh on them. Bionaire says, 'use compressed air and that will clean them. Do not open tower case for any reason'. I watched your vid and braved opening them. I'm not sure why Bionaire is so adamant about that. Other than the clips inside that seem they were intended to break instead of open, they cleaned up very well. It frustrates me a lot that the manufacturer just hopes you'll keep buying new ones as though they're disposable. You can rest assured I wont buy Bionaire anything.

They are probably so adamant about not opening them because they want you to just toss it and go buy another one. That’s what most people do but a little routine maintenance will keep these going if you don’t mind dedicating a little time to it.

Bob S you should use superlube I had a twin window fan and it was making weird nioses so I put some superlube on the bearings and it spins faster and is super quiet it also runs like new
