No need to by a new one my friend, a very simple fix is to 1- Take out the 2 contacts and clean the heads from carbon. 2- Extract the small spring in the middle, and stretch it a little and notice that it should push on the ends of the 2 contacts when pressing the switch. 3- return everything to place and test to see the top contact close first then the bottom one close after, not together. Actually, my drill is the same type as yours and the switch was damaged more than yours, found bent pieces. I have just fixed it and it is back to service. Working as a charm. Thank you for the Diagram tho lol.

Thanks for putting this up Peter - I'd already fixed my drill when I looked, but still it was interesting to see as you took yours apart more than I took mine apart. Yeah it's true that what you call coils are called brushes, and also that the carbon deposit on the copper is fine - the brushes are graphite and they wear making the contact - often people need to replace their brushes, so now I'll have a better idea of how to having seen this video. Strangely my drill wouldn't turn off without pulling socket, so I believed my switch was broken. In attempting to replace it I ended up opening it up and all the parts looked like they worked fine and it definitely turned on and off - the only thing I could think was that there seemed to be a trace of some kind of lubricant and I thought this might have been conducting and shorting the switch, so I wiped that out, put it back together and it worked. I'm not convinced it was the lubricant / contaminant wiping that made the difference, I think maybe a spring had got jammed somehow and the switch wasn't pushing out properly and that just moving it around a lot in disassembly fixed the issue. Anyway, thanks again I found it useful :o)

You must have a multi tester to test faulty contacts ,the motor seems ok...repairing power tools is not guessing where the problem is..you must test from the plug, cords ,switch, wires ,carbon brush and windings of motor..use a multi tester

I like that he showed a straight-through video without edits. He hit the problem of the halves not coming apart, so then he showed how he got around the problem. Now if it would only apply to my Craftsman 6 amp hammer drill...

I agree completely......but drill not running is not the same as drill smoking and not turning. I am from south africa ..it is a struggle to get spares here. You dont know why impact drll ..sts bitt ones... They run drill bit is turning but when you start drilling it make a noise and dont drill..sound like gears slipping. Have a good day. All of the best ..

@@npktrust3184 SDS electro pneumatic hammerdrills like my Bulldog have a fixed torque slip clutch to prevent damaging the gear by overtorque. Sounds like your drill's slip clutch is making that noise. High torque joist drills of recent design have a similar safety clutch, designed to reduce the chance of operator injury. If you've ever been bit by a Hole Hawg, you will recognize the value of that feature.
