We hooked our smallest disc harrow and used it to break up freshly plowed ground at Ted's house. We had 12 16 inch discs on ours and it worked great!

I run mine with a 55 gallon plastic drum, about 3/4 full of water, strapped to the rear deck area to get better ground penetration and with a few more passes than a tiller, looks just like I tilled it. This thing is built like a tank and really was a great purchase.

Great tip about not over tilling and pulverizing. Mine goes back together like concrate afte a rain or two. Another helpful hint for gardeners... I keep my garden area tiller or disced year round . When not in use it stir it up about every 30-45 days to control grass and weeds.

The disc cut up the soil fairly well, and it is looking good, but I would love to see what the tiller did on the other portion of the field.

I have rocky soil. Is the Disk Harrow a better choice then a tiller? I'm thinking that the disk is less likely to break on some rocks.

The cheapest way I've found to add weight is to use 80lb bags of concrete. Wet the entire bag and let cure for a few days. The shape is easy to lift and they sit flat on the frame. Just secure with a ratchet strap to the frame and your good to go. Only a couple bucks a bag.

Is there a possibility of a pull behind disc in the future? Maybe a premium model that has hydraulic wheel lift and hydraulic expansion like old cover crop discs of 1960's and earlier.

Several passes with a disc harrow followed by a rake will probably get close.

If you have a tiller, do you need a disc plow? I have hardpan play with rocks.
@EverythingAttachments
@EverythingAttachments 6 жыл бұрын
Some only use a tiller, but in compacted soil, a plow will break the hard pan and get the process started more ideally. It's best to turn the soil over with a plow, let the overturned vegetation decompose and add nutrients back, follow it up with a disc, which makes it easier for the tiller to provide the final perfect seedbed. You can skip the first two steps, but all three produces awesome results! Thanks for watching!!

What's the advantage of using a chisel plow then a disk as opposed to just using a rototiller?
@EverythingAttachments
@EverythingAttachments 6 жыл бұрын
Starting with a bottom plow historically produces the best results. Plowing is a great first step in garden preparation. It turns surface vegetation under, causing it to decompose and add nutrients back where they can be used. If the soil is difficult, following up with a disk as an intermediate step will prolong the life and minimize wear/tear on your tiller.

What hp is that Kubota? We had an old Farmall model A (17hp) that pulled a disk more than twice that width- in NY clay. So I'm guessing that Kubota could handle a much bigger one, too. Lol- we had that thing weighted down with rocks and cinder blocks to get it to cut up our rock hard clay. That, a 1 bottom plow; a spring tooth harrow and a cultipacker did a pretty good job for us.
@EverythingAttachments
@EverythingAttachments 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! The Farmall A is a superb gardening tractor from way on back! The tractor in the video is a B3350(33hp). Yes, it will handle a larger harrow, but, in this garden series, pretty much all of the attachments we used are compatible with both the B and our BX series machine, which wouldn't be very happy with a larger harrow.

When Dad sold it in 2000 prior to moving out of state, he got quite a bit more than he paid for it! The guy who bought it drove all the way up from Kentucky w/a trailer, and was delighted to have it. So that Kubota would be equal to a JD 3/4 series, I guess. (These days it's so hard to say- there are several lines in each brand that offer a 33-ish hp model...)

What is the current price (2020) for a disc tiller 65" cut? We have soil that is as hard as rock when it is dry but, unlike yours ours has rocks, BIG rocks. If you hit a rock with one of these will it just bounce over it or will it damage the discs?
@EverythingAttachments
@EverythingAttachments 4 жыл бұрын
We have a few different models and configurations, but a 66" EA model will start at just over $1,000. It's hard to tell what could happen underground, when it comes to ground engaging implements, but we very rarely hear of a broken disc blade. EA builds them right! Check out our models, all the prices, and more videos and reviews here: www.everythingattachments.com/Disc-Harrow-s/10647.htm

+Jack Caldwell We have those also. www.everythingattachments.com/product-p/eta-xd-bf-dh.htm Some people do not want heavier attachments......1. Budget 2. Application, like certain seeds for food plots, may not require the soil to be broken that much. 3. May want more garden time to escape reality....wife....so more passes could be a positive!
