You have made me think that, if we consider the whole bible as a chiasm (both testaments united), then the Book of Psalms is the central part. I've just been focused on exploring this book for like three months, and it really stretches back and forth through the whole Bible. Good episode. Thank you and greetings.

Hey, good to hear from you! I had actually planned to talk about how the entire Bible is one big chiasm, but ended up scratching that part of the video because I felt that it needed some more work to be convincing. Might do a separate video on it sometime once I get it all figured out. Would be interested to see how you arrived at the Psalms as the center.

@@MasterpieceBible Well, I don't have a very sophisticated idea about that, it occurred to me when I saw your video. But... a) On the one hand there is the obvious: the Books of Wisdom are physically in the center of the Bible, with The Psalms in the center of the center. That suggests that the main message of the entire book could be that we attain wisdom and praise God. It doesn't seem unreasonable. b) The Book of Genesis begins with a moment of great splendor (creation and paradise) followed immediately by the fall. In the Book of Revelation we have a fall (the two beasts, etc) immediately followed by the final splendor (the New Jerusalem). And in the middle of those two peaks, is the only moment in which Israel reaches splendor: the kingdom of David, singing to God with his harp. There is symmetry in that too c) Before the Books of Wisdom we have the history of the kings in The Chronicles. And after Wisdom are The Prophets. There is also symmetry: each king has an associated prophet, the former representing secular power and the latter the power of God. d) Before the kings are the judges and their bad government. And after the prophets are The Gospels, with the scribes and Pharisees ruling just as badly. It's not much for now, but it seems to work so far.

Another idea (on the fly): Perhaps the Exodus and the entire journey to the promised land corresponds with Paul's letters and the journey of the church expanding throughout the world. The first is a journey from dispersion to concentration in Jerusalem, and the second is the reverse journey: from Jerusalem to dispersion around the world.

@@dracon5244 Interesting thoughts, thanks for sharing! Definitely a starting point for further research.

@@ПетровВячеслав-ш1н Maybe you are right. But when we say that a poem has a chiastic structure, it does not mean that it has the same number of words or letters before the center and after the center. It is a more complex concept than that.

The book of revelation is a difficult book to understand but if you read it in a chiastic structure you will see that it places times, places and events in its proper place so the real events and times will be in order. You will be amazed to learn the true story being illustrated and will clear in the understanding of events.

I am continually amazed at the literary beauty as seen in the craft and structure of the bible. One resource I have found helpful is David A. Dorsey's The Literary Structure of the Old Testament. Once one begins to pay attention to biblical structures it is truly amazing how one's experience in the bible is enhanced and enriched. Thank you for these videos. May God bless you as you serve Him and share His word. Martha

Totally agree! Dorsey's book is definitely interesting.

I love this so much but would like to save to my playlist and the saving feature is not available. It is with your other videos.

Sorry to hear that! I'm not an expert on these things, but I just checked and I'm able to save it to a playlist on my devices just like the other ones. I also checked the settings and don't see any difference to the other videos. So I really don't know what the problem is.

Yeah, but the whole Bible (in Luthers canon) is a chiastic structure. Isn't it?
@MasterpieceBible Жыл бұрын
I was going to talk about that in the video as well, but felt like it needed some more work. What would the chiasm look like?
@francoisplaniol1489 Жыл бұрын
@@MasterpieceBible Heard that somehow, but I didnt developped for myself. (Hard to express in a pure text format.) A God creates a perfect earth (Gen1-2) B Adam introduces sin (Gen3) C (your many parallels between OT-stories and NT narratives). D Littles prophets focus on soon coming Jesus In the center of the chiasm, E the unique life of Jesus D NT-Letters expand on Jesus work fpr the church. C (... in fact there seems to be a exchange D -> C here) B God eliminates sin (Rev21) A God recreates the perfect earth (Rev22) There are also structures presentations here around like for example from Stephen Bohr about Rev 15-22...

@@MasterpieceBible And maybe a side question: why is the chiasm so important in the Bible (possibly in other literature at this time) / why does the Bible serves itself with mainly this one structure? My guess (intuition-based) would be: the candlestick in the holy place is a representation of a chiasm. It is also the place where God sends his knowledge/spirit/word (at least according to newer OT-texts, and of course Revelation). May I classify then the chiasms my way? poor chiasm: no center statement; common chiasm: 5 or less branches; "royal" chiasm: 7 branches; extrem chiasm: 9 or more branches. If it has something to say about the importance of the center statement...

I had something similar but got hung up on the wisdom literature. Plus it's not the Hebrew canon.
@MasterpieceBible Жыл бұрын
My guess is because it was a very common rhetorical device at the time the Bible was written. Even today, many books as well as movies have a similar setup. But the parallel panel structure also occurs quite frequently in the Bible. And possibly others we don't even know about.
