As a cigar smoker for almost 50 years, we NEVER stub out a cigar! It's not a cigarette. It will smell nasty. The cigar will go out on it's own. To make this a pipe ashtray just replace the metal center insert with a cork pipe knocker. Very nice ashtray. Well done.

This is badass, just so you know, in cigar culture, the rule is, you don't ever snub out your cigar. You just put it down, let it turn off alone, since it has no accelerants. They usually turn off after 1-2 minutes. They may be warm up to 5 minutes in my experience, nonetheless it's frowned upon to just smush it in the ash tray. Now in pipe smoking they have a tamp that they'll tap the pipe to empty it.

Wow great video. I’m starting a project today with a chunk of walnut I have. Want to coat it with epoxy but was wondering how it would take the heat from putting joints out. Any issues you see with the ash/cherry burns?

My question is, how do you prevent a bunch of little bubbles from forming if you just pour it in like that? Or is there little tiny bubbles we can’t see in the video that are in fact there and no biggie? Also… what do you do to control the temp of the epoxy? I have never done anything yet but watched a lot of videos and always learning so this could be valuable info for me if I one day try something out. Thank you by the way, amazing video.
@refinednatureofsantafe

In order to minimize bubbles the room has to be between 70-80 degrees and ur heat gun or torch are your best friend! 👍🏼

Also how much retardant powder do you add to the sealer, rough guess? I’ve made a few ashtrays and don’t want them to get burned. I did find a high heat sealer that I was going to try, but haven’t yet

the center piece striker is really unnecessary, any premium cigar or remnant there of, that is left alone in an ashtray will, in short time, stop burning then be able to be discarded in any trash receptacle. Smashing a cigar to put it out only makes an unsightly mess.
@mercedogre
@mercedogre 2 жыл бұрын
pipe ashtray on the other hand, should always include a striker, but a striker made of a soft material, like cork or other soft wood. The pipe striker is to insure any and all ash is dislodged from the bowl of a pipe while preventing the pipe from being chipped from the tapping on the striker
