Getting into a PC MIDI controller for the first time. back in college (20 years ago, wow I feel old) I bought a used set of Technics and a Vestax mixer and got pretty good at mixing. I was heavily into the Hardcore/Freeform side, looking back on it now I was right there at the start of Freeform, when it branched from Trancecore. After living and working for a long time wanted to get back into it as a hobby for fun, and went with the Party Mix because its relatively cheap and seems good enough for beginner/fun usage. Using a MIDI controller on a PC is different from spinning Vinyls, hopefully this will help me get into using it a bit more.

Not "much louder". If you were DJing anywhere that had a mixer, you could easily compensate for it by turning the mixer gain up a little.

First, sorry for the delayed response. But if you haven't already, you should test the waters with a free software like Virtual DJ first. See if the whole process of mixing & making the decisions of what track to play next is one that you really enjoy enough that spending cash on hardware would be an investment. If you've already decided its definitely something for you, the Part Mix does look to be one of the best starter controllers currently available. I haven't used it myself, but having helped research for a friend who was also just getting started, I can comfortably recommend it, as I'm sure any of the Digital DJ Tips team could confirm. However if your budget can stretch it, you might be able to find something like a Pioneer DDJ-SB2 at a lowered price due to the newer model (SB3) being released not too long ago. These controllers are exceptional for starting DJs, are very good build quality, and are absolutely packed with features for the price point. Hope this helps :)

You could in theory, but it's best to use headphones with a headband, as you need to be able to repeatedly take them on and off, and sometimes have them on one ear only - you want something you can quickly adjust, which isn't possible with earbuds.
