I was the first civilian owner of this old ambulance, and used it for Emergency Medical response in the Skagit, it's interesting to see what happened to it after I sold it. I like you kept the original paint from the Rockport Fire Department. Rockport bought this ambulance from the Darrington Fire department for thier First Responders. Darrington bought this from Everett for chasing broken loggers up the Suattle River drainage. Good to see it's not scrapped and someone loves it as much as I did.

Nice work. Did both the Chevy and the Dodge have 135 inch wheelbases ? Looking to possibly do this with a 59 Chevy Apache 3800. Do you think it would be about the same procedure? Can I hire you?🙂
@ElReysGarage3 жыл бұрын
I believe that is correct. I chose the 62 one ton panel because it was the same wheelbase as the 93-97 Dodge dually with the Cummins. I was also looking at finding a 59 one ton panel also. So...definitely do the homework on wheelbases out there. I believe at the time...I was centered on finding a 59 one ton panel because the wheelbase is exact. The 62 was 1.7 inches different as far as wheels centering up in the wheel wells. As far as if will work as easily...will everything fit the same...do not know for sure. We didnt have to cut the firewall....but did have to shave a little from behind the grill. We also had to shorten the brake booster bracket. The space in the engine bay for the Dodge/Cummins is just larger than what we had in the 62...You may find with the 59 that space may be about the same. No matter what...It can be done. And thanks for watchin this stuff!!

Well, I hope this is the place to start asking questions. 4X4 vans=$$$$. I have an '85 F250 extended cab 4X4 pick up and here's what I was wondering. Would a pick up frame be the same as a van frame in the same series run? This seems to me would be a tough and expensive job made easy and inexpensive. Of course I'm aware wheelbase would have to be the same but.... What do you think?
@ElReysGarage2 жыл бұрын
Great question actually. I truly dont know for sure. For sure can be done with a little cut and weld here and there. I think that the steering linkage/box .. brake booster location and linkage .. would be the issues. .. I dont know Christine .. tough one that will definitely come with some research. Some Ford truck forums are great for that too ... I think that some research into 85 series chassis/wheelbase/dimensions will shed some light too. Cool project if you can pull it off ... Got yerself a possible side biz there too!!!

If I had an automatic transmission how much different would the wiring situation be? I got a 76 k20 I want to swap on a 94 cummins and I’m more worried about wiring over anything 😅
@ElReysGarage Жыл бұрын
Well, to be honest...I dont know. I'd have to research that setup. But I figure, an automatic from the Dodge would be told what to do by a computer...a TCM...that TCM may also be communicating with the brains of the operation (The ECM) ... so there may be some sensors involved. Now, if you were to use all the Dodge sensors and wiring for the Cummins and the trans...You might be just fine. You will run into questions and problems to solve..BUT...THAT...my brother is part of the fun!!! You can do it

Questions I'm in sc I have a 77 f150 2wd. Are there titling if I swap In a 77 f150 4x4 frame from another truck?
@ElReysGarage2 жыл бұрын
Never done that swap but seems pretty straight forward..where body mounts would line up I would think. You will have to figure out a few linkage issues with the additional shifter for the 4 wheel drive I would think...but seems to be a straight forward swap. I would definitely ask around, take some measurements...do some research..but in my optimistic view..seems like a nice and easy swap being the same year truck. Unless you have some kind of camper special where the wheel base is a different length. Better check that one..wheel base length..huge!!

How did you bypass the safety position sensor is my question I have a automatic to manual transmission project that I’m stuck on that roadblock no one that I personally know has any experience with that kind of vehicle modification engine customization they are mostly just a parts changer mechanic buy a stock manufacturer installed components and replace with exactly the same thing
@illuminateBeats1 Жыл бұрын
So when I’m asking how to bypass the safety position switch so the computer will send the signal to bridge the relay starter to turn
@ElReysGarage Жыл бұрын
If I understand correctly, If this is a neutral safety switch or some kind of switch...I would say maybe a "bypass" would work...meaning, one wire goes into the switch with 12V power, and when the switch is activated by whatever it is that usually activates it , that power comes out of the other side wire (Im picturing 2 wire switch) ...So if that is the case, if those 2 wires are wired together (bybassing the switch altogether), the computer or whatever reads that switch now believes it is "safe" .. I hope that helps. Without being there to see it and figure it out, that is my best guess.@@illuminateBeats1

I bought the used 95 Dodge 3500 truck for 2800.00 ... That truck had the 5.9 Cummins in it...but also had a bad automatic 47RH trans in it and the body and interior were next to junk. Another factor is that the old Dodge had 450+ thousand miles on the odometer!! The truck started but would not move under it's own power. I later bought a trans manual trans and Southbend Clutch from Summit and sold the bad automatic. I believe I spent about 2200.00 on the brand new trans and clutch assembly. So I'd say about 5k on the total underneath frame/drivetrain..something like that. I used some parts from a donor truck like the pedal assembly, bell housing, shifters and trans mount. Hope that helps

Shop wants to charge me $4500 to frame swap as 94 blazer onto another 94 blazer frame. Is that reasonable?

Many factors here...1. If you cant do the work yourself..then maybe not too much to ask for the job. 2. Could probably buy another complete running 94 Blazer for that amount? 3. Maybe check with other shops to see if they could do it and how much they'd charge?? 4. Also, how good / reputable is the shop...are they rated high??? Never forget...You can only pick two of these .. "GOOD/FAST/CHEAP"...of these three, one will have to go. It's a real gray area with many factors. Sorry couldn't give you more on that one.

@@ElReysGarage I’m only looking to do the swap because I have a huge 12 in lift on my blazer but someone rolled my truck over crushing the body up pretty bad. So I happen to have another blazer that’s just sitting there. The shop would charge me $7000 to swap the parts vs. $4500 to swap the body of the good on onto the lifted one. I’ve gone to this shop for a few years. Seems pretty good. Other shops are looking to charge me much more or flat out refused to do it. I’m pretty mechanically inclined but I don’t have the equipment to lift the body’s off the frames

You have a point....I figured because I swapped the automatic to a manual on the dirt floor of a barn, I was kind of on a low budget. But you are right...the lift, the fork lift and the extra help was a welcome luxury for sure!!

Contact GRAPPAHOLICS channel and give that man some advice, he needs it. He’s trying to put an old Ford truck body on his 2016 super duty and trying to keep the interior. Lol
