Most important part of this job is properly sealing those injector teflon seals. I ended up doing the same method to my car because I do not have a compressor and it did the job just took a while. Hope you have a timing chain service planned or record of it being done if the car is above 120k. These are interference motors and if it is not done the piston and valves will collide, bending your valves and more than likely causing more damage than the car is worth.

Might sound like kind of a dumb question but how do you know when the valves are fully closed? Also which way do you turn the crank? Don’t wanna potentially screw anything up. Changing my injectors this weekend and wanna do a carbon clean at the same time. Thanks!

From what I’ve been told you usually want to turn the crank clocks wise. For the valves you kind of just have to look in there and you should be able to see when they are fully seated. If you want to you could just crank it over a few timing and see when one of them is all the way closed then just match that height on each one if that makes sense.

No before and after shots? Did you end up using the walnut media?

I had a before shot but forgot to get one after I cleaned it up. I just used that valve cleaner spray and some picks and brushes it worked pretty goo. Mine wasn’t terrible tho so if it was any worse the walnut media probably would have been the way to go.

Where did you place the jack when lifting it from the front?

I guess it’d be the front subframe. Behind the oil pan where that lower trans/engine mount is bolted too
