This makes me very happy. Buying a $6-9 cartridge converter felt like a bit of overkill for a $3 pen.

but it's not very convenient. it is much more convenient to pour ink into the used cartridge that comes with the kit .. The thread does not get dirty. Especially for pigment ink

U can just use a syringe to refill the disposable cartridge that comes with the pen

Indeed... shortly after I posted this comment, i bought a blunt needle syringe off Amazon and now reuse cartridges all the time. I live in a pretty hot place and open reservoir pens - no matter how fancy - eventually burp a big blob of ink when the air inside gets warm and expands. I have even experimented with putting larger cartridge sizes in pens that can fit them, and modifying some to fit when they don't. Now, my advice to anyone getting into fountain pens is to get a syringe. You'll never worry about refilling again.

@@doc_sav I had an idea to fill the pen's body with a little resin to prevent it from burping. It would be a similar capacity to a Twsbi Diamond or a Twsbi Eco

I've only ever eyedroppered a few pens. My first was a Jinhao 992 before I knew about the infamous end cracking issue - and I learned the hard way - so that didn't go well. The next was a Preppy, exactly as you did here, and of course it was rock solid stable. Very good pens for the price, if you can tolerate the ugly branding and barcode nonsense they print on the barrel. Good capacity, responsive nib, great price. Can't go wrong.

Get the newer preppy crystal and no more bar code!

@@unsharpen Yeah a couple of these came yesterday. I also heard that there is a way to remove the printed stuff from older Preppies with a solvent that I can't remember from the top of my head - enough to take away the gibberish but not so aggressive as to scar the pen barrel.

Thanks for all the helpful hints. I used a dash 011 o-ring (5/16" x 7/16".) I pulled it out of my Harbor Freight o-ring kit. My kit had 15 of this size o-ring. So, if you can't find a better source for one or two, you can always buy the kit and convert a bunch of pens, or share with friends.

I've been looking for info on this ink which seems to no longer be available. I got a bottle at half price so was happy to see this in the thumbnail here.

I tightly wrap the top of the body with black streachy electrical tape and it is an extra safety to prevent cracking - cheers get videos 👍🏽

I’ve been wanting to get around to doing this with my preppies, but I have never got around to it. They’d be good for the Diamine shimmer inks because I wouldn’t have to worry about cleaning the feed to thoroughly afterwards. I might actually go and get some o rings and do this.

Based on my experience with the pens cracking I can't imagine doing this, although it looks so cool

You can use teflon plastic tape (the thin white tape that plumbers use to seal pipes and taps)

I'm wondering if you would use something like the little rubber bands used for braces if that would also work, since these would be easier to get my hands on.

Yeah a little one, like orthodontic elastic bands, should be fine

Why not buy a Wing Sung 3008. A 3 dollar piston filler. Transparent body. Takes more ink than the Preppy. You can easily swap any Lamy Safari nib of your choice on to it. Cheapest option for sure.
