So now we're going to learn how to do some powerslides on roller skates. A power slide is a very easy way to stop while your speed is very fast. The best way I can describe it is think of Zorro, and when they do their nice, little fencing technique, so when you're bent down in your ready position, you'll actually be going in the opposite direction backwards. As you put pressure on your front leg, you're going to have a straight leg all the way down, and have pressure on the inside wheels, so it kind of comes to a complete stop backwards.
So you start out forward, you do the initial hockey stop, and then you're actually turning around to skate backward. So this is a more advanced skill, but again, it can be used for roller skating in the park, so it can be used for derby, dance skating, freestyle skating, and pretty much anything else, and it looks cool. So when you go forwards, get ready, here we go.
Skating forwards, knees bent, turning, and down, and there's your Zorro right there, okay? And notice how you get a little more slide, and this is where your balance should be, you should have a lot of weight on your front foot, and in your slide is where it needs to be straight, so if I pull my feet back together, I'm still underneath my body, but you want to make sure that it's not here, because then you'll do a circle, or over there, and it can pull you backwards, okay? So here we go again. That is a powerslide.

I noticed that she never removed her stoppers. I was told that advanced skaters don't use them because it limits their mobility

Phillip you're correct. Advanced skaters don't use their stoppers but most figure roller skaters use their stoppers because it's easier when it comes to single/double/triple jumps. I personally prefer skating without my stoppers because I have much more freedom to execute various moves that I couldn't when I used stoppers. However, I'm not a figure roller skater rather free dancing roller skater. It's all about personal preference and movements. 😊

It depends on the type of skating they do. For dance and spins on your toes, stoppers get in the way. For some jumps they will use stoppers in a similar way to the toe pick on ice skates. Park skaters use them for tricks, and derby players tend to keep theirs on also just for added safety. It doesn’t necessarily mean your are more or less of a pro

That's a good comment Jacob with using those wheels outside she ruins them for use in a skating rink lol I worked as a floor guard at the Portsmouth, Va. Plaza Skating Rink and we checked the wheels on personal skates and if they were used outside they could not use them in our rink because they would mess the floor up
