This is the best pump down video that I've seen so far. He explained the procedure very well.

Agradecido 👍✅ . Por razones personales no pude estudiar a/c de joven; hoy a mis 72 añitos empecé a estudiar lo que toda la vida me gustó 🙏.

HVAC student here. I've never seen a pump down done manually (pressing down the contactor). In the school they taught me to do it with the compressor running on its own. Interesting method of yours. Since you have more control of the situation and do not have to rush to close the suction valve.

It’s better this way, since some systems have a lower pressure cutoff that will shut the compressor off if you run it normally. Therefore you will still have like 40 psig on your low side. But some systems like the inverter/high end systems you don’t really have the choice in pushing the contactor 😂

Great video thanks. 2 things I would love to have you explain- 1)-why did you have to hold contactor in and 2) why did you not close the low side immediately after you reached zero? Thanks so much-I'll be checking back to see if there is an answer to my questions-thanks again-GREAT JOB!

Hi Mark, as I watched in the video, he held the contactor pushed to manually keep the compressor and the fan in the condensing unit and the blower in the evaporating unit "on" so the moment the gauges read "0" he release the contactor and it turn "off" immediately. He didn't close the low side because the moment the compressor stops, the high pressure valve in the compressor is held close by the high pressure of the discharge line and the low side valve is held close by the vacuum in the suction line. It was really a very informative video.

This is nice when the compressor works but in the cases it doesn’t you’ll need a recovery tank to pull the refrigerant into before you extract the unit

Yes if you want to, the compressor reed valves should hold the refrigerant..
