When swapping out trachs, I've seen RTs first insert an "exchanger" tube in the lumen of the trach which extends to the trachea and hangs out proximal opening of the trach. The old trach is removed and a new trach inserted while the exchange tubing is in place. Only when the new trach is inserted does the exchanger get removed. This ensures a patent airway during the procedure.

Where are the gloves!!!!
@Mairi.25 жыл бұрын
If this is done in the home,if this video is for the purpose of showing that, gloves are very, very often not used. Hands would be washed, as with any medical handling of a patient. At home people are, possibly more often then not, suctioned as in a clean procedure as opposed to sterile, including not using gloves. What a gorgeous baby he is!! and I hope he is doing well😊

soo sad to see this on such young children ! I hope all is ok for him ! PRAYERS !
@kaytlinhowardmangelson73007 жыл бұрын
decoysk you would be amazed at how well these kids do! Our baby was trached at 8 1/2 months and has thrived! It may seem strange but her childhood is as normal as it is BECAUSE of her trach, never in spite of it

You might be thinking of a ventilator, lots of kids live active lives with just a trach.

and if it's the parents they aren't required to wear gloves with their child
@taraparsons61726 жыл бұрын

@@jamiecox2817 its a sterile procedure, can lead to infection

We were told we weren’t required to wear them as we are the parents doing the change. Even in the hospital with our training we were required to wear during a trach change, nurses yes, us no.

my gosh that looks painful 😭😭😭
@habibbi775 жыл бұрын
The suctioning is uncomfortable but once it's healed it's probably not painful. He doesn't look too distressed.

Excuse me but why aren't they wearing gloves.trach care should be a sterile procedure. who is responsible for making this video?
@christihendricks25845 жыл бұрын
It's clearly a home setting and the parents are doing the procedure. Sterile technique is not necessary if the kiddo is not immunocompromised and nobody is sick. Medical equipment is expensive and families often struggle to cover costs.
