It has to do with considerations regarding pressure and treatment goals. Blood flow without focusing on any area too long . Cover all muscle groups. Post massage Like a lymphatic massage but with focus as needed . Treatment goal is performance

If the goal of pre-event sports massage is increased blood flow and excitation to target muscles, what is the benefit of this intervention over standard warm-up routines?
@MyphysiosaAuAdelaide7 жыл бұрын
B Hi, it doesn’t replace a standard warmup routine that players should do. It just compliments the whole warmup process and helps athletes focus on their preparation mentally.

@MyphysiosaAuAdelaide7 жыл бұрын
Yes, definitely. I would use acupressure massage for post event or training massage sessions, probably not in pre-event massage though. Sometimes strong acupressure techniques can switch a muscle off or have an effect on its strength for a period of time. So best not to do it prior to an event. Hope this advice helps Ellie

Sorry but there's really no such thing as a "sports massage", the technique is really the same as any massage. The only difference is working more on the muscle associated with the clients particular sport. And of course lighter if right before an event and deeper afterwards.
@MyphysiosaAuAdelaide5 жыл бұрын
David Church Good points. 👍
@annasoul87365 жыл бұрын
The word sports massage is probably used to make things easier for the client to recognise. Whatever you want to call it; it should definitely be part of the remedial section of massages. At diploma level or higher of remedial massage therapy. Not lower.
@mohammedramadan11473 жыл бұрын
I agree👍
@AB-ft2lb3 жыл бұрын
While some of the techniques may be the same, the purpose differs. Sports massage is intended to help athletes. It helps prepare their bodies for competition or recover following it. Sports injury massage even differs again. While some techniques might be similar to say a Swedish Massage, the purpose and more specifically the rhythm they are employed is completely different. There are also techniques specific to sports massage such PNF, NMT, etc.
@Dave_Outside3 жыл бұрын
@@AB-ft2lb it’s no different than regular massage. Other then understanding maybe what movement and muscles are involved in a particular sport or what problems are likely. However in my experience the person receiving the message already knows where they need work done. I have a textbook on sports massage, have taken a course in “Russian sports massage” and there truly is no difference. I use the exact same techniques on desk bound IT workers as I do athletes. There is absolutely no special technique reserved for athletes over other people.

What is the difference between a sports & deep tissue massage?
@MyphysiosaAuAdelaide6 жыл бұрын
Hi, They are quite different. Sports massage is used pre and post sport with techniques that either wake up muscles, get more flexibility out of them etc. Deep tissue is to target dysfunctional areas within muscles eg trigger points and help with reducing pain and high tone in muscles. Hope this helps!
@Crypticals-6 жыл бұрын
So for a athlete who trains daily, suffers from muscle fatigue, tightness/pain in calf muscle + stiff lower back, which treatment would you suggest, should i get a deep tissue massage to boost start targeting my problem areas, then have follow up appointments having a sports massage to maintain health?
@MyphysiosaAuAdelaide6 жыл бұрын
That sounds like a great plan. We call targeted deep tissue massage, remedial massage, in Australia. Get your problems fixed, then use sports massage for sports recovery. Good luck with it!
