Very good video, I feel like you have covered it pretty well. One topic I think would make for a good continuation to this video is how to grease the equipment properly. I see many new guys come through and not know much about greasing except, "grease it everyday". Well there's certain fitting that aren't supposed to be greased daily (such as slewing ring and track tension adjustments) and some fittings that have to be greased multiple times a day (such as a hyd hammer), plus different types of grease for different equipment and applications. And I can't believe how many guys cant even refill a grease gun properly. I feel this is one of the most under-appreciated aspects of maintenance that costs owners a lot of money in downtime having to line-bore and replace pins.. Greasing becomes incredibly important for GPS bulldozers and others because any linkage free-play means you are loosing grade accuracy. Keep it up guys, love the videos!

Awesome advice. And totally agree. I actually discussed the greasing piece and do believe we will do a separate video on How To Grease in the near future. Thanks for watching and subscribing to our channel!

I can totally agree I think these days a lot of operators and taking up the luxury of having that big tank mounted near the engine steps and so people are forgetting to check things are getting grease they just think well the machine is doing it why should I need to check. Also see a lot of operators not realise the auto greaser doesnt fill itself. It might auto grease but it doesnt auto fill. And they figure it out once everything is squealing like a 3 year old wanting a balloon animal and some icecream. But greasing is very valuable. And cheaper than repairs. As they say prevention is normally better than the cure. Also seen a lot of people who double wipe the nipple once before the gun which is good but again afterwards where as leaving the residual grease till next time prevents the nipple from blocking with dirt and grime so extreme sandbox and how to grease right and wrong ways would be invaluable I think!

@james dourish That's why most Operator's always spoil those nippels all time bro,It's all about being gentle with the nippels sameway we do with the joysticks and not forcing when greasing those parts.

Stretch out that boom the night before and check your hydraulic level. I'd go ahead and show them where the pump oil dipstick is that as well. Another tip is to turn fuel valve and release any water that might be at the bottom of the fuel tank.

Another good thing to check is the bolts on the sprockets, roller wheels, etc. in the undercarriage. That is a simple fix when they're just loose but when they fall out unnoticed, larger problems can ensue.

How should be the speed of an excavator during operation
@beaubath25375 жыл бұрын
Its definitely pretty smack on. I'm an old school,new school operator and to me I try to make as little and speedy work as possible of a pre op and I think with enough time your running through it in your head. But I prefer to try do one single walk around cause I see some operators killing paid time bouncing from the left side of the machine to the right side then on top then back to the left and then ontop to check engine oil. Where as I like to combine my visual and mechanical checks into one normally starting in the cab side looking up and down then into that engine bay then around doing all the visual get the opposite side and do the engine bay check then keep scanning then up on top do the checks up there and then down out to the bucket and boom and then back up into the cab start her up and then I also on occasion say handing over from another operator I like to let it warm up before getting into hard work and I like to just jump out listen to my machine any rattles or squeaks from belts being worn maybe. And also I've found typically if a hose is likely to blow it's now when it's just getting going due to the added load on the engine to get the cold oils and fluids moving but also jumping out of your machine gives you that visual check for any leaks with the engine pressure pumping everything eg coolant or hydraulic leak. Sometimes a pin hole is hard to notice until its pumping it through. Also allows you to listen to the turbo so you can hear any whistling from maybe a hose that's frayed cause those sudden gunshots will cost you a lot of pride and a new pair of undies. If alls good then jump in and go hump some dirt!

Awesome advice. Yes, agree just having a consistent routine is the best for any operator. Thanks for the sharing your input!
@beaubath25375 жыл бұрын
@@HeavyMetalLearning definitely true consistency is basically muscle memory. I know when I started out I followed a checklist but eventually you can visualize it in your head after so long and it becomes second nature but this definitely is a great place for new operators to start out. I know a lot of what you guys cover is definitely knowledge I would have love to have ages ago so thank you for the content you guys put out!

good video, should had included written texts. why is the checklist not shown being utilized.
@HeavyMetalLearning5 жыл бұрын
Prob would have been good to include it, however for our daily pre-ops we generally don’t have a paper checklist we actually fill out. It’s just the process of completely a walk around and inspection daily. Thanks for the comment!
