That's a good question and it has a simple answer she doesn't! Lmao lemme rephrase that well she obviously does not know where the shadows go lol I sound so rude but basically she uses a reference a reference means like a photo she's drawing off the photo has to contain the shadow parts and the light parts so it's pretty simple to answer : she uses a reference that contains a light source and shadows to know where the light will go and shadows

Well she wrote the numbers on the paper in the intro. She used 142 for the lightest color, 107 for a light color, 97 for a bit darker one, 93 for the darker one, and 92 for the darkest color.
