Division Quotient Remainder 680 / 16 42 8 42 / 16 2 10 = A 2 / 16 0 2 To find remainder, use 680 - quotient (42 in this case) * 16 = 8 In another word, 680 - (42 * 16) = 8 Then 42 - (2 * 16) = 10 2 cannot go into 16, so the remainder will remain 2 itself. Therefore, reading from bottom to top of *remainder*, you will get *2A8* as your hexadecimal.

He meant to say that lesser place values than the 256 place value can hold the number 74. That is absolutely correct. But it came out wrong so... blame him if you want. The important thing is that we understand what he meant, not what he said. That's what separates humans from machines, we have the ability to read between the lines. However, I would argue that you can still use the 256 place value to hold (encode) 74 in hex. It's unorthodox but it's possible. For example, if you look at the decimal number 680 (six hundreds, eight tens, zero ones). It can be expressed as "68 tens". Have you never heard English speakers say things like "16 hundred dollars" (feel free to replace dollars with any other currency or something else)? What they mean is 1600 dollars (one thousand, six hundred dollars). It's colloquialism, and you will commonly hear people talk this way in everyday conversations and it's almost exclusively when they talk about money. But any such trickery is breaking the positional system, be it decimal or hexadecimal. That's why you only talk this way, you don't write it down on paper the same way you describe it in words. You can't easily translate the actual words directly into a number system. In the first example, in "68 tens" you are using 2 digits in the tens place value. This is illegal in both decimal and hexadecimal system. In any positional number system, there can be no more than 1 digit in each place value position. Not unless you invent a new positional system with the base 68. A fun fact is that in ancient Mesopotamia they used base 60 number system. So just like with base 16 or hexadecimal where you can represent the decimal value 15 as F which is a single digit or symbol, you could come up with a way to represent "68 tens" in a similar way. If we decide that the hashtag # shall represent 68, then the "#" symbol would be a way to encode 68 with a single digit. Now, with this background story out of the way, you can tell that it's possible to express the decimal number 74 in the 256 place value in hex. I won't bother trying though! The language might become a barrier for hex, with all the "-th" and "-s" and "-teen" endings in English. You might end up pronouncing something weird like "2F-teen 1A2-th" and so on. Any number can be regrouped like this and still be expressed in the number system. Perhaps even going past the decimal point into fractional parts. This is where we get the concept of "borrowing" and "carrying" when we add or subtract numbers. As long as you are shifting the digits to the right I should add. For example, 680 is the same as "68 tens" which is the same as "680 ones", which is the same as "6800 tenths", which is the same as "68000 hundredths" and so on. It's when you wan to shift the digits to the left that it becomes a bit more painful, but it is possible. It won't look pretty though, i.e. you won't have whole numbers. So using the same decimal example, 680 would be "68 tens", which is the same as "6.8 hundreds", which is the same as "0.68 thousands", which is the same as "0.068 ten thousands" and so on. This is what positional number systems are all about, shifting digits to the left or right and using different symbols to represent different values.

256 is definitely less than 74, no other way to explain that. hexadecimal is merely converting the numbering system you know into increments of 16. 0-9 represent their corresponding numbers, but once we reach 10, how, in hex is it able to differentiate 10 from a 1 and a 0? from 10-15, alphabetical characters are used. 10=A, 11=B... 14=E, 15=F

Lol, F those people? Not everyone has the ability to filter and distinguish sounds as easily as you clearly. The music is nice but more consideration should have been given to the levels of audio. It's fine to have music but it should not conflict with the purpose the video, in this case being the tutor's voice. Either check your vocal audio is able to heard over the music, or save the music for intro and outro's. Learn some empathy.
