I'm starting my 1st EPP. Each flower will have a theme, cooking, sewing and people.in my life & what represent them for instance my son (baseball, scouts, etc) 1 of my God daughter is in the medical field (microscope, needle, DNA, etc) her parents/my sons Godparents were both in the navy so each one of theirs will be for them (sewing, cooking, a viola, cigar/pipe, navy symbol and more. And the center ill embroidery their names rank and service dates. Some people will have multiple flowers, depending on how long they have been in my life. I started this (only have 1 flower done) as a quiet little project to do while everything fits inside an ice cream bucket with a lid so if I need to sit with someone at a hospital/Dr office.. or just a quiet time.. I have something that can be put away quickly (I also knit & crochet and that takes time to secure your yarn, put it away and what if you run out of yarn.....) this is small... right now I'm just making the single hexagons and then putting them together when I have the right combo.
@magicalumbrella71512 жыл бұрын
Well done you not using glue paper inserts, which is problematic within itself. Tip: hand basting is very quick if you only bate the corners and not through the paper. When sewing the pieces together whip stitch them FLAT not front sides together. In this way, the stitching threads NEVER show in the seams and the finish is incredible. Perfection IS achievable. Juxtaposing the pieces in this way makes joining large pieces into a quilt far easier to work with, in fact, quite a pleasure rather than fabric wrestling! You can also ease fussy cuts matching to perfection this way very easily. When stitched, paper removal is very quick and easy, you just lift them out to reuse them later. Choose a fabric that is easily stitched by hand as some printed fabrics can be quite tough and are better for machine stitching projects.

Did you make that quilt on your knee the multi coloured one . I have been making an 108 x108 inch in my knee it’s getting very heavy. I started off doing as a grandmothers flower garden but there was a lot of infil so the tried building onto this. , it’s all a bit lopsided, so trying to square it up into this size is taking forever. Hehe. I have been making it for a year. How do you quilt your finished quilts please.

Beautiful quilts! Obviously all made with love. I must admit I use the sewline fabric glue pen to attach the fabric to the card, as the fabric peels off later when you want to remove the card and you can still re use it. Love all your videos, thanks! x

@StitchSisters2 жыл бұрын
Is the 1.75cm the length across a side or across the widest point? Ideally you need about 0.75-1cm excess around all the edges to wrap around. It doesn’t need to be exact.

@StitchSisters4 жыл бұрын
Hi Barbara Sewing together in a row is relatively easy. Just see two hexies together on any straight edge. You then continue to sew another on the opposite straight edge. Sew two separate rows like this and then fit them into each other like a jigsaw puzzle and sew 🧵

I am just starting a hexagon quilt. I have lots of scraps from all the masks I’ve made in the last few months and when I need more, I’ll look for a jelly roll that’s already 2-1/2” wide. I’m also using squares like you (lot less cutting) but my basting is not going through the paper and it’s holding very well. And I love that you’re not using glue. Thank you for sharing your techniques and I can’t wait to see how to finish a quilt like this!❤️

I loved your tutorial. Very clear explanation. I save the light pieces of cardboard that stockings come wrapped around to make paper pieces. You can buy hexagon/ pentagon/ square/ triangle... Templates online. To hold the fabric while your sewing you can also use little "sew tite magnets" on Amazon too. Please let Macy's be on camera! Fluffy babies are wonderful !❤️

My mother inherited her great-grandmother's hexagonal quilt, which was made from old cotton ties and boxer shorts. I'm a block quilter and was always fascinated at how these quilts are pieced together. I would stare at the pieces trying to reverse engineer those beautiful corners! In America, this is type of quilting is out of vogue, so I could never find a book in any library craft section with instructions. I didn't even know what this type of quilting was called until I stumbled upon this video today! I'm so grateful to you for creating this video. I'm so grateful to finally know how to do this. But, at the same time, it's a bitter sweet moment, because I mourn over all the EPP quilts I could've made over the last 25 years.
@claudettemonty40773 жыл бұрын
When I do EPP, I use special sewing glue and applied it just near the side of the card and it’s stay good. When you will wash your quilt, the glue will go away. It’s more quick than the manual basting with thread.

The grandmother's flower garden usually has one round of background fabric around the flowers. During the early part 9h the 1940's I was old enough to remember and too young for school and I played under the quilting frame while my grandmother quilted. I learned a lot during that time but I have only made one quilt and it was done on an overlooked and machine quilted. It was a larger baby quilt for a granddaughter who was expecting her first child.

Squeak. You have made me want to make a quilt! I love your scrappy ones and especially the random nature. Yay you! Also marvellous because I share your need to use ALL the fabric! I take my small unuseable scraps to our charity shops, who sell them as rags, I think they end up as insulation. So absolutely none of my fabric goes in the bin. Some of my nicer scraps I give to my daughters school for the kids art projects. Thank you for this, I may start my first quilt on our family holiday!

Well that was just fabulous. TBH I have not had the enthusiasm for quilting as I much prefer to wear my sewing, but this was exciting to see and I am now conflicted as to whether I sit by son's bedside for 7 days in hospital next week knitting a cardy (my new found hobby for chillaxing on the sofa in front of tv) or whether I now be the obsessed lady cutting little hexagons out and wrapping them up in fabric as I have a couple of big bags of scrap fabric that I had no idea what to do with and chucking them in the bin seemed so sacreligeous, obviously I was waiting for this video! Thanks ladies for this visit into quiltmania.
