I have studied the Iwama Aikido System for 47 years including in Iwama under Saito Sensei between the years 1976 to 1989. I am not sure of the nature of this video, but these technique were not a secret for instructors only. What is shown here are some of the basic Iwama curriculum for Morotedori Kokyu Ho. The first Morotedori Kokyu Ho is the basic which all variations grow out of. This was always the second technique of the class. Saito Sensei stated in Iwama O'Sensei always started with Tai no Henko, Morotedori Kokyu Ho, in that order, and ended with Kokyu Dosa. There are many variations that grow from the first form as seen in the second Morotedori Kokyu Ho shown ( MKH from motion). There are more direct applications where the hips and arm enter like irime nage. There are different ways to use the free hand. There are ways to change the grabbed arm into a choke or use like a double shomen strike. All stem from the first Kokyuho Ho shown. Then there are variations depending how uke grabs. First grab is twisting the arm. Second is holding the elbow up. Third is pulling the arm down. Fourth is grabbing below the wrist controlling the nage's wrist rotation. There were many more in both categories (stemming from the basic form and the different ways uke grabbed). All these variations were learned by shodan. Hopes this clarifies Saito Sensei's teaching.

The footage of Morihro Saito Shihan is a part of him (just) showing all fundamental techniques in the Iwama Ryu curriculum. Therefor there is no explanation. As far as I know this footage was originally made for senior instructors only and was supposed to be kept confidential. Here is a video of Saito Shihan explaining Morote Dori Kokyu Ho at a seminar: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bHTanWlrrKt1gNk

One movement without interruption , duration does‘nt really matters if the movement is continuous and related without interruption with that of your opponent.

It's so stupid, all this Kotei training with Uke holding on in static posture. It is how you learn, but not how it is applied since the attack is entirely unrealistic. Initiating the attack gives Tori the automatic advantage of momentum into the intended technique. This is one of the reasons, in my opinion, why Aikido is being left behind in the world of martial arts. When people see high grade Aikidoka persisting in displays of Kata style Aikido against unrealistic attacks they are naturally not impressed. Kata is king at the beginning but one must outgrow it.

The static grab applies resistance in certain directions in order to learn body mechanics and levers, for example using your body weight to move the attacker and apply the technique. It’s not entirely unrealistic to grab restrain somebody in any real attack so to say that is a little naive in my opinion. Also every martial arts struggle to emulate the real situation including boxing or UFC, I would define a real attack to include more than 1 person, somebody holding a weapon, somebody attacking you while you are sleeping etc. Any martial art that can give you confidence and clarity of mind in the fight allows you to make better choices that includes running away to increase your chances of survival.

The only correct attack katate riotedori shown by Christian Tissier. Tori keeps one hand free. Think about it.
