Treat it like NHL 2 Dont overwork it.. Walls will feel soft until carbonation has taken place.

😂 ya was a bit nervous myself leaving it until the following morning but it was so wet like barely floatable when I left it was no way it was finishing the same day and it took a little more rubbing to wet up the surface no beads or anything just rounded corners into reveals ect but finished up beautiful

@@omar-nj6wl Good for you. We all had to learn that impossible thing to teach- confidence! My dad and I had to float (sand/cement with water proofner in) a large, basement room once in winter. Walls had been 'blacked', grited and scratch coated. It took a quite thick, ruled off top coat and at 6pm, it was as wet as when we'd put it on. Dad said we're going home!! Got back next day at 8am with it all still on the wall not the floor and started to rub it with the float and then sponge finish it by 12ish.

@mastersmurf74 have you just left the screw in it ? Ever think about just putting a plug in it you can buy a kit and do it yourself there cheap and simple enough process

Just thought of something else as well! My apprentice tip! When I was branching away from constant site work as well as away from working with my (teacher) dad, I did an internal, damp proofing job for a builder. I had good plastering skills by then but the job specified a Renovation plaster which I had never used before. I did exactly what smurf did here- read the instructions on the bag!!! Apprentices out there- if you're new to a material/product, there is no shame in reading what's written on the bag to be able to do things right. Write that down! 🙂🙂

Yeah apprentice, read the bag, should be easier for you as you don’t need glasses yet to read the small print! 👍

Has the lime gone over plasterboard, If so what benefits does it have?
@mastersmurf74

No, it’s on a wood fibre board. I think I show it at the beginning of the video. I’m probably going to do a video about the floating today.

Can I please ask.... Why is it about "keeping costs down" ? If the customer (home owner) wants that product (which is probably expensive) and that type of finish, surely the builder you're working for has priced/allowed for the cost of the time it takes you or any other plasterer? Or have you given the builder a price for what he (the builder) wants you do do? I totally understand how you've explained about your local work situation, hence travelling further but (as you know, I'm honest with what I say here!!) it's starting to get on my nerves a bit that people want a difficult job, done to a quality finish as cheap as possible. I can't be the only one thinking that?

I’m just dealing with the guy that’s supplied me the work, I’m on a day rate with him. I think the sponge method is less labour intensive so hence, cutting the cost there. Giving people more for their money, ensures I get more work. It’s the war, not the battle. If I’m overloaded with work, I would price this not to get it. It’s just the climate I find myself in right at this very moment.👍

@@mastersmurf74 "It’s the war, not the battle" are wise words which you know I agree with from my 'extra half hour for same day rate money' post on another video. We've all been there and you've said how you're getting a feeling about work not coming in as it might normally. It still annoys though when you, me or anyone are driving miles, doing a hard, good days work yet having to go 'cheap'. Baked beans in Tesco aren't getting any cheaper! As for overloaded, I put a silly price in for a stairwell once- didn't really need the day's work and was booked up for weeks at the time yet still got the job and had to squeeze it in. Made me wonder what other's may have quoted!!

Made me think of the time my dad and I did a 6 week job @70 miles from home years ago meaning leaving at 5am, in winter so dark mornings. Dad falls asleep in the van but wakes up when we get to the A12/M25 roundabout. He says, where you going, you're going the wrong way. I said, dad, we're going TO work not on the way home!!! What a coincidence you're spraying walls just after I said on the other comment about having to spray the blocks! We used to use using a 'foam' type sponge for sponge finish. The surface of the sponge is tight (no holes) so 'dragged' much less but it does depend on how coarse the material you're sponging is. Watched another lime based plaster video a few weeks ago. That bloke sponged then trowelled but I don't think it was the same material as your using here. Any one remember when the British Gypsum factory broke down in the mid 90's and people were fighting to get hold of multi finish? We were forced to use Knauf plaster which not many had used before. That gave a finish very similar to this even after trowelling. Horrible stuff to use.

@@mastersmurf74 I live in North East Essex and a private customer was so desperate to get his job done, he drove to Birmingham to collect 5 bags of multi. Not one bag of multi in any builders merchant for miles around near me. Builder I knew had 20 bags and locked them away in his own home garage, not his compound!

@@mastersmurf74 My dad hated it. Took me a while to get used to it because it was white! However, I'm sure we may have tried sponging it as, lets face it, it wasn't going to make it worse!! I think it would be ideal for a sponge finish. That Thistle Universal One Coat I've mentioned was definitely rule, float, sponge and trowel. I know because I read the instructions on the bag! 🙂🙂
