At 9:01 is the best picture of the upper spring locations! Make sure both springs go in the proper holes and you don't mix the two of them up. The picture also shows how the brake adjuster piece fits in place. The bottom spring can only be installed one way, so that's relatively easy. The tough part is getting the adjuster in place and the springs back on. The picture is of the right side and the left side is the mirror image of it. Try to prevent any residual pressure in the lines from blowing out the cylinder pistons and cups when the springs are removed, and of course NEVER press the brake pedal while the drums are removed!

This video would be of assistance to someone only if that person had done a brake shoe replacement before. For a newbie much more detail and close ups would be needed. Imagine somebody tearing all those springs, adjuster, levers, and plates off, and then being totally confused about how to reassemble.

We always recommend leaving the brakes on the other side of the vehicle in tact so that you can use it as a reference point if you get confused as to where some of the components go or attach to. Hope this helps you out.

I have a 2008 dodge avenger. Just did the rear drums following this video. I'm thinking I have the adjustment too lose, as I pull the parking brake and it barely slows the car down, but does make enough contact to eventually start smoking if left on or repeatedly used, but i'm not comfortable with it unless it locks the wheels when pulled which it doesnt.. I'm not sure?

This video really helps. However I'm in a pickle. 2010 caliber, bought everything new, drums, pad, hardware and cylinder. I installed everything like it should be, and now the new drum doesn't want to slide in, over the pads. If i turn the adjuster, so i can squeeze pads together (compress cylinder) THEN i am able to slide the new drums. BUT all the hardware springs and adjuster clip become really loose and fall.

So I'm doing the other side.. The little pawl lever is on the inside of the brake shoe. My question is does the adjuster notch fit around both the emergency brake arm and the brake shoe? Also, how do you get the spring on that lever since it is on the inside when doing brakes on the left side of the vehicle?

The spring that goes on top between the shoes goes on the inside. Hook it to both shoes before putting them in place and fixing them with the hold-down springs. Note that it goes in different holes on each shoe. Stop the video at 9:01 and expand it to full screen so you can see the details. The spring that goes from the front shoe to the adjuster arm (pawl lever) is installed from the outside. It's a bit of a trick, but you can do it.
