Learning game breaker mechanics can help your skating stand out immensely from the crowd. In this Train 2.0 hockey video, CEO Jason Yee breaks down how to do the 10&2 mohawk skating mechanic, a crucial skill for any hockey player looking to improve their skating on the ice.
Learn the proper technique with step by step progression so players of all ages and skill levels can begin training this mechanic and become a higher quality skater. Jason shows a couple of different drills to begin feeling this movement utilized by NHL stars like Cale Makar, Connor McDavid, and Sidney Crosby. With tips and drills from Train 2.0 you'll be able to take your hockey skills to the next level. An added bonus of training the 10-2 mohawk is how it can really help your forward stride. Was sent this by a friend after discussing it. This breaks it down so much better and I always considered my feet being in a straight line and not having the mobility. Will definitely be trying to learn this now.

Love to hear it. So many people think this is a mobility issue when in fact it’s a motor pattern problem that can be trained in through repetition and awareness.

After 4 months I finally had the light bulb after taking a closer look to Jason's mechanics while I was teaching my kids. I can't emphasize enough how much forward shin angle helps with dialing the 10 and 2, especially when you feel the heel pressure alternate between each foot. Big props and thank you to Jason and Train 2.0. on the coach's call where my questions were answered about my challenges with the 10 and 2.

Hope you had luck! I've been working on mine lately, because I can comfortably do the thing with my left foot leading, but for some reason, my right side just refuses to follow along. I hit the rink for 30 minutes the other morning and pretty much just worked on 10&2's the entire time.

Nice man! 11 months later I can do it continuously in a circle. It reminded me of learning to ride a bike as a kid. One day it just clicked. I have to say I’ve been doing a lot of hip exercises and they’ve helped a ton! Keep at it!!!!

"It's a skill thing; not a mobility thing." Not sure you have seen my immobile hips 🙂 Would like to believe you but it sure feels like a mobility thing. I feel like I can't open up my hips enough to get my front skate pointed in the right direction. The end result is that my front foot carves an arc back to the middle causing me to lose control. Will keep trying. Thanks for the great content.

I will say it should be a little bit of a mobility thing. Don’t rely on your knees in this movement, it will hurt them slightly if you do it a lot but use more of your hips to do this. If you can open your hips up it helps a lot to do this. And hurts less keep the core tight and don’t hyper extend.

I've been trying to pull off this skill for a while now. The biggest problem with me is that I keep spinning out after trying to hold the pose. So I will get into the mohawk stance, glide for two seconds (I know you said you didn't have to hold it in the video, but I'm trying to hold it like Crosby does), then spin out. I'm guessing this has to do with my back foot curving first, which then makes my forward foot spin to retain balance. I essentially do a half transition. When holding the position, do you concentrate on your back foot position more, the forward foot position, or is it just trying to keep the balance exactly in the middle? Same question on the blade pressure area. Do you focus on the toes, mid, or heel of the blade when providing pressure? Nice video BTW. Keep up the good work. 👍
@Train2point0
@Train2point0 Жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it. So focus on shifting the weight equally foot to foot, to keep the movement and build momentum. Blade pressure, heels as this will help your rocker, helping your movements be smooth and efficient.

I'm gonna give 10&2 another go, I gave up on it years ago. I have to get super low and it still requires so much tension to keep my hips open, that I've always figured even if I learned it I couldn't put it in my arsenal. I've seen much, much worse skaters than me have no trouble with 10&2. But truth is, just being able to do one 10&2 stride comfortably opens up a ton of options for deception

What is the step in between the boards and the part after that on the ice? I’ve tried the boards, rocking from my heels on inner edges and trying to keep my hips and ankles loose, but no matter what I can never get the rear leg to engage and hold the edge when not on the boards. When I let that blade contact the ice it either starts to act as a brake, or I grab the ice and due to poor mobility I instantly initiate a hard turn rather than a 10-2 lateral movement. I cannot for the life of me get beyond what you’re doing on the boards.
