Thanks for doing this. My family was always against everything that has to be with ballet and art in general. But I'm 21 now, I'm an adult and they can't tell me what to do anymore. Your videos inspired me to learn and take ballet classes even if people say I'm too old already.

Thank you. When I was a child I was in ballet school. But I overheard my parent say they didn't have enough money, so I told them that I didn't want to do it anymore which I know broke my mom's heart even more than mine. Now is an adult, nearly 30 years later I get to relive my dreams.💛

Dang I'm torn because this is well presented, but whew it took me years of other movement modalities to unlearn the default "turn out" stance (which is not great for someone with hypermobile hips like me)
@everydayballet
@everydayballet 5 ай бұрын
Yes, hypermobility presents a set of challenges. If you undertake ballet again, it is very important to be conservative in your stance, maintain proper alignment, and perhaps most importantly, activate the muscles around that conservative placement. THIS trains stability which is what those with hypermobility need to do ballet effectively. Hope this helps! 🙏🩰🥰

Also, rewatching the video, I think I have medium arches instead of flat feet almost entirely because of my ballet training years. Rolling a tennis ball under one's arches was the norm then, but overall ballet requires learning more subtle muscle control and awareness. One of many reasons I have much love for ballet training Edit: my mom has super high arches and the arch dysmorphia is real!

I’ve been having a hard time doing fifth position and I’m not sure why. Any advice?
@everydayballet
@everydayballet 3 жыл бұрын
Without a bit more description, I can’t say for sure what the issue is exactly. But one way to work up to 5th is to use 3rd position instead. The biggest mistake I see in 5th is that people over-rotate the front foot, causing the ankle to roll forward-which in turn prevents proper alignment all the way up the body. See my video “How to Do the 5 Positions” for more details. Hope this helps! 😊🩰🌸

My poor blue collar family spent money for years so I could have tap and ballet lessons every Saturday for years. I was always put at the head of the class. There were even dance recitals with a white tutu. When the dance school recommended private lessons for me, my parents pulled me out of class with no room for argument. I accepted this but now regret it.

My "barre" is actually a step ladder! I have to admit it is very light and not as stable as holding onto something like a barstool or counter ledge, so that may be a consideration for you as a beginner. But it is highly portable! Here’s a link to the one I have: smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B011K83P2K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Hope this helps! Thanks for watching! :-D

While it is true that most professional dancers begin ballet before the age of 10, there are definitely exceptions. You should do ballet because you want to and because you love it… Whether or not you become a professional will not diminish the benefits, joy, focus, and accomplishment of doing something as beautiful and challenging as ballet. I hope you will try it, love it, and reap the many rewards of dedication and practice! 🥰✨🌸🩰

I love just standing in 3rd position. It is so natural for me and I don't know why. Never taken one ballet class. Okay this sounds weird but...let's do an in-depth study of 3rd position please. I'm curious about what more it has to offer
@everydayballet
@everydayballet Жыл бұрын
That’s great! Third position is a great “beginner fifth” position. It’s rarely used except as a training position for a deeper crossing of the legs in turnout. That said, I strongly encourage my students to use third to develop their placement, strength, and coordination for advancing in their ballet technique. 😊🩰✨

It’s just a step stool. It looks a little fancy with the silver finish, but any step stool with a tall enough handle makes an excellent substitute for a ballet barre!😊✨🩰

Is 5th position dangerous if you are just starting out? I mean could you hurt yourself if you try too hard?
@everydayballet
@everydayballet 2 жыл бұрын
New beginners should stick with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd (which is similar to 5th, but with less crossing of the feet). Fifth is not “dangerous”, but it can cause injury if done incorrectly over time. The biggest issue is over-rotating the feet where the knees are not bending out over the toes. Knees and toes must be aligned, otherwise stress occurs in the knee and ankle joints. It takes time to develop the turnout and strength to maintain it in 5th position. For this reason it’s best to begin with 1st position and then cross into 3rd. Eventually 5th position happens as the dancer becomes stronger and more limber in the joints. 😊
