I bumped into this man last Friday as I'd just finished work and thanked him for how much this podcast helps me stay sober. He really is just a lovely normal and humble man. Took time to talk to me and give me support. Thank you for you for that, you really helped me. 24 days sober now and looking forward to a sober Christmas with the Mrs and kids.

Respect Dan. I was in a similar spot myself a few years back. Clawed myself out of the void and have remained sober since. Like you, my social life has disappeared but i accept it as a better outcome. Messed a few Christmas up and smashed my own mental health to oblivion in the past, and i dont know why. Lot of regrets but I'm on a better path now

I love how a lot of the things talked about in this podcast goes for many other addictions and disordered eating as well. That would be overeating for me. Trying to unlearn that "habit" and knowing the holidays are coming up where people are basically shoving food and sweets down your throat everywhere you go.. it's making me nervous too man. Let's all get through each our struggles together 🙌

I've just started to stop as a binge drinker and I've actually been thinking what I'm going to do at Xmas. Great timing for this video. You could actually see the sadness in Dan's eyes and I felt worried for him. However 13 mins in you hit the nail on the head were in control of our kids memories which is far more important. Thanks 👍

Brilliant, will be my first sober Christmas it's also my birthday on Christmas day - but I'm in such a positive place right now I'm hoping that will carry me through - weirdly and suprisingly not dreading it but looking forward to it! The shame and guilt of the past maybe 🙈 I've made sobriety plans in place of where I would be drinking I've also focused alot on previous years feelings and embeded that in my head when I get the iggle - the thing I will miss the most is the festive baileys whilst doing my Christmas tree with the Christmas music playing, except last year it turned I to a whole bottle and more and I hated myself.. that's the only trigger I have that I'm dreading - not that I think il drink but just worried about the emotions of it. But as Dan said it's just a moment! My story very much relates to yours I was not a daily drinker but I had such an unhealthy relationship with it. Thank for these Podcasts, they are my Friday go to! Thanks for helping so many of us in our sobriety journey. You look so healthy and happy now Dan and you have the most beautiful family - well done to you on your sobriety! Thankyou for sharing that with us, the highs and the lows and using your platform so beautifully to help others. It is so very much appreciated ☺️

Hey Dapper been following you since just before covid. I was going to say a bunch of things here, but I rather give you my thanks for this pod cast. Many of us out there are having some hard times and listening to someone like yourself and coming down to human level give us all that brotherly support that we need to hear to push on through our shitty problems and Xmas is a big thing but also brings alot of pressure. So thank you truly and good luck to all those guys trying their hardest to combat themselves to push on and swim above the water. Big 🫂 Daps. Chris from Gibraltar 🇬🇮

Evening Dan. Really appreciate that you have done a podcast on this topic. Thanks for sharing your triggers. My triggers are people places and things. People being together I spend Xmas on my own. I really struggle and get down about it. Knowing majority of people are spending good times together. Get really into self that triggers me. I know it’s selfish and self centred I get full of self pity. Any ideas to help appreciated. Am hoping working a programme will really help. Love what you said about making it all about self. Difficult to be there for others when I have cut majority of people out. All best have a great week!!! Xx

Great podcast mate. Keep up the good work. I'm haven't given up drinking but can relate to a lot of the sess stories from my old life in London working in TV in Soho for 16 years. My solution was emigrate to a small ski town in the Canadian Rockies, with my young family back in 2009. I think if I hadn't done that it would have been a very different outcome, not one I would have loved I am certain of that.

I think it would be a good idea to focus the next few podcasts on coping with the triggers of Christmas I feel Christmas is a terrible time for all addictions not just drink and alcohol and our brains will tell us go on spend more gamble more or eat more the list goes on it really heightens every addiction. Also people have more time on their hands so bad news for addicts. Christmas is truly the worst time for all addictions thanks again for such a helpful podcast for addictions

Triggers defo xmas music , And an event with sll my pals Christmas hat day at 1 point there were 60 of us rolling out with Christmas hats on 9 o clock meet, a pint with breakfast then it turns into complete carnage , that feeling walking through town smashed like an army untouchable , I even got a xmas hat tattooed on my arse ,that is now effectively pointless, I use to whip that out for photos , giving that up is hard

Hey Dan, I'm 22 and I've just started my sober journey again. I've been a heavy drinker since I was about 15 and recently over the past year I'd started doing gear regularly. My big problems with alcohol is my inability to set a limit on how much I drink and using it to be sociable. Was there an amount of time of sobriety where you were able to say to yourself "I'm over the worst of it now."?

@MedlinMark28 күн бұрын
I’ll add to that though, I run ultra marathons now and hit the gym a couple of times a week, therefore recovery is important to me and decent sleep. Booze buggers my sleep up massively and I love sleep now, having disrespected sleep when I was smashed in my early 40s. So, I’m pretty on top of things now but had the odd beer/glass of red, however now is the times to address this I’m going sober💪🏽. Well done Dan, you’re smashing it now but in a different way👌🏽🙌🏽

How does that attitude help you or me mate? Give your head a wobble, being horrible to people will make you feel worse. But, undeniably, you are right, if i had lost it all and all i had was the drink it would be harder, so much harder. But dont get it twisted, when i went sober id lost my mrs & kids, i had to get sober to get them back. But. I feel your pain, as much as your comment triggerd me, unfortunately it’s probably true to a certain extent. Love mate, im sending love x Pls try get better x
