I have MAD respect for these type of dancers. The coordination between feet, legs and upper body is amazing (and something I've never been good at). This leads me to have trouble with such a dance. These people have practiced so much that they make it look soooo easy and literally as If they are walking on air. Kinda envious right now 😂😂😂

5:03 - for anyone who doesn't understand the timing: 1&a2 = 1/2 beat (1), 1/4 beat (&), 1/4 beat (a), whole beat (2). It comes from the 1e&a counting system. In this case, the "a" is the extra step he squeezed in. Before he did that, it was 1&2, or half half whole (at 4:04). It's nice to see a dance teacher counting the music correctly.

What helped me was taking the steps as a single piece. Heel inwards then toe out wards. While doing each of these moves separately on one foot I noticed that my weight would be more on my opposite leg during the Heel inwards step. you can apply that to both steps put together. Keep your weight on the foot where your toe flares out (weight on you heel). You will have more balance during the move and it will be a lot easier.

BEST tutorial Ive found for this move! I kept seeing it in cutting shapes tutorials but they never explained it like you did. Thank you, finally got it! I notice a lot of commenters struggled, I think learning the very basic shuffle movements can help immensely. After I learned "running man" and "criss cross" charleston variation, all the moves were WAY easier to learn after. Good luck fellow dancers.

I've watched many tutorials on trying to learn the steps of this dance. I'm turning 50 this yr. In my younger years when my kids were little, they always had music groups that had routines in their videos. I loved learning them with my kids. But there was this one step I never could concur. That is till just now. Thank you! I have finely got it down. I'll keep practicing and I'll be showing my now grown kids, that Mom can still out dance them. Lol!
