Great advice! I made one modification. I kept the old legs off the Weber grill I was replacing. I painted them black after cutting them down to six inches. I added these to the top of the legs to cover up the conduit. Because they were black, they look like part of the grill. What a great look! Additionally, these old legs made a very tight fit! I added a screw at the base of the grill into the legs for added structured integrity. It works great!

Nice upgrade Tom. I had to go back and put a second screw in the coupling where the legs attach. Helped stabilize even more.

I had to do this as well. I used self tapping screws and washers. The emt tubing didn't fit snug at all into the three mounting holes under the bowl. No more wobble. Loving my kettle again!

I used 1" chrome Shower curtain rod for the front leg replacement. Replaced the stock wheelers with 14" rear lawn mower wheels. So much easier on my old back.

I have a 2 year old master touch kettle. I'm amazed by how easily the original hollow legs will bend, dent and wobble. This mod is great even for those of us who are average or below average height. The emt thru the original legs really stiffens everything up and I love having the extra height which makes cleaning the ash can a lot easier. Thanks for the video Tom :)

Have to thank you tremendously for your work with this modification. I did this on my 18" kettle which I'm trying to pimp out a bit. :-) Perfect size for my needs, but definitely too low. Sharing that with the smaller kettle, I went with a 4 inch lift and it worked great. (Sounds like I'm talking about off roaders! :-) ) It's now basically the same height as a master touch, but I couldn't get one of those in the 18 inch size. I tried the higher size but was really tight to the point the wheels didn't roll smooth, my thought due to the smaller geometry. HUGELY worth doing even on the 18, fwiw. . Your modification is outstanding, extremely cost effective and will save my back. I'm 6'2 and this is perfect for me.

You’re trying to sell your weber on the corner in exchange for some questionable activities??? (I kid! I kid) But good to know that this works on the 18” as well.

Great mod Tom... Love my Master Touch but hate how short they are and the wobbling legs. For that reason I am going to the performers. Plus you get a table with them. Enjoy that shorts weather and have a great Christmas.

Nice mod, like the "green goddess" you have. I did the same with an old 2006 model that had the friction leg fittings at the bowl. I had lots of weeble wobble and put some screws in that helped, but it still wobbles a lot. I may try taking them out and putting some kind of spacer in there - maybe a couple wraps of metal HVAC tape to make the conduit large enough and decrease wobble. Love your vids as always....

Could only find one 5’ section of conduit online for a decent price. I guess I’ll have to subtract an inch from your specs. Still will be better than it is now.

Can you ( "I" ) just use maybe 3/4 covered by 1" emt the way you used original weber legs, without the lower tray/wheel assembly? Reason I ask, Weber sent me replacement 26"er to replace bowl and cover that had rust spot (Great company that stands behind their products!). Would love to make a Fraken -Weber 26" out of the extra parts. I'll still have to invest in a few things but if it works I can save a bundle. Thanks in advance for the help. Love your videos!!!

Wow Tom…what a cool upgrade! Do you think this would work properly if I add one more inch to each leg (cut 2 x 20” + 1 x 26”)? I’m 6’ and wanted to try to boost the height of my Weber Kettle 26” as much as possible. Or do the pieces need to be cut a different length for the Weber Original Kettle Premium 26-inch grill?

Doesn't the angle change between the female fitting on the bottom of the kettle, and the new, longer leg? Or is there enough play in the fitting that this does not matter?
@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ4 жыл бұрын
Good question! There’s enough play to make it work. Thanks for watching!

Did the paint on the inside of the lid burn/flake off for you? Mine did (it's only 3 years old) & I know how that it needs "high temperature" paint but all of the varieties that I've found say no exposure to direct flames or it can only sustain up to 600°F of prolonged exposure. What paint should I use?
@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ5 жыл бұрын
Adam Huffman Thanks for watching Adam! There is no need to paint the inside of the lid it is porcelain enamel coated! The piece I referred to in the video is on the out side of the grill which I did paint
@forestwolf605 жыл бұрын
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ thnx for the feedback. However mine isn't the "elite" colored version like yours, it's just the plain black model. Does that make a difference?
@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ5 жыл бұрын
Adam Huffman Lol Adam! It does not, just an fyi, the colored versions are usually the same price as the standard black model.

It's not uncommon to see carbonized grease build up on the inside of a Weber Kettle dome lid that appears like peeling paint, but it's not paint. It should be cleaned/scraped off because it can fall onto your food.

Does Stevie Wonder design the legs on these weber grills? Why should we have to spend almost $200 on a weber, just to bring it home and work on it? The one leg without the wheels is a total inch shorter than the other two. I just got it yesterday 6\2\21. c'mon china, you can do better.
