This gives me a whole new appreciation for guys like Brock, Lashley, and Riddle. To be able to do pro wrestling punches and then actually fight someone in real combat is just crazy. The shifting back and forth between two totally different things while making them look alike.

I love these videos. This stuff is sort of like an anti-martial art. Lots of repetitive practice to get good, but instead of maximizing damage you're trying to minimize it. I'm going on 40 in less than a year and am probably a bit too old to get started (there's something to be said for being in good physical shape and free of nagging injuries) but a big part of me regrets not giving this stuff a shot when I was younger.

@@greato80 I'm actually in really good shape, especially for someone my age -- it's not that I couldn't do it in theory. It's just that aches and pains I could just shake off when I was younger can stick around for days, and moving *just* the wrong way can put a shoulder or joint out for a week or longer. Getting older ain't no picnic, and I don't want to aggravate something that could bother me in my fifties and beyond... still, I appreciate the good wishes. :)

One of the worse things to happen to wrestling back in the day was in the 1980's cable wrestling and the slow motion camera shots. Looked cool watching a Bobby Eaton rocket launch off the top rope in slo mo but even the best can't hide the subtle secrets at that speed. Big mistake that old TV studio wrestling would never make. @MuhammadsMohel2 жыл бұрын
Been in for over 22 years and also have done a fair amount of mma and jits. I have noticed that it's a subjective thing, with exceptions for full blown missing, because it's a fake punch being judged by someone who (most often) doesn't know how to throw a real punch and they (the critic/coach) know you are throwing fake punches so they have the high ground and a position of power to say "getting better", "needs work", or "looks fake" this is more about maintaining the power relationship than solely on bad work. Just learn to wrestle for real, then you won't rely on punches, and you won't need to punch, most professionals do not understand martial arts drilling, kata, technique and think a fight is all brute strength and will.

It’s funny, i’m a boxer, the best way to punch is pull back immediately after you connect hard you’re supposed to immediately pull back. That creates the most force at point of impact.
@HkFinn834 жыл бұрын
No it doesn’t, it’s the complete opposite. Punching through the target creates the most power. Maybe you were taught that in the context of bringing your hands back to guard
@Thor-Orion4 жыл бұрын
@@HkFinn83 i misspoke. It is more force if your drive your punch through the target, but when your goal is to cause the head to snap when you connect and recoil they can’t roll with the punch which causes their brain to shake more. Obviously the main goal is to bring your punches right back to guard, but for head shots there’s also more nuance to punching than simply generating as much force as possible. But force wise your correct, punching through does cause more force but ultimately can dampen the damage.
