In this video, I will explain ALL THREE methods for the right hand rule (RHR) for cross products! This includes the...
1. Index finger, middle finger RHR
2. Curl Fingers RHR
3. Palm-push RHR
Note: There is another right hand rule that's used for something other than cross products (it's the one where your curl your fingers and tick out a thumb, used for circulation, the magnetic field around a current carrying wire, etc.). This right hand rule is separate from the cross product right hand rule I discuss here, and I have a video on it:
• Right Hand Rule #2 | A...
I'll work you through several examples, and I'll also show you that all three of these methods are doing the exact same thing. They are actually making the same motions and giving the same results with your right hand, just using different fingers or parts of your hand to do so.
I highly encourage you to become a POWERFUL PHYSICIST and learn all three methods for the Right hand rule for cross products. It gives you flexibility and understanding of the right hand rule for cross products.
I'll also explain that you should ALWAYS use a right-handed coordinate system (a coordinate system based on your right-hand) when solving problems. This is a coordinate system where you make sure that the direction of the "z hat" vector in your coordinate system is 100% aligned with the direction of "x hat" cross "y hat", based on which directions you drew "x hat" and "y hat."
