Very useful video, even to a old pro. Ignore the ignorant comments from some of the trolls below who barely have a command of their own language, let alone another. BTW occasionally, you get lucky and can swap and switch shims around on the motor and not have to buy any. And for the uninitiated, too much clearance is far better than too little. You can look at the lobes when you pull the cover, and the ones that are shiny all the way around are usually too tight. Another sign is a engine that develops a miss as it warms up.

Hi Peter, thank you for the videos. Perhaps I think it would be better to use a micrometer with a rounded tip at the plunger on the side where the shim is worn out. Cheers to all

Thank you for the video. This week I would like to do some job on my 1nzfe. I have a question: 1. To do the valve clearance check can this be done by manually rotating the camshaft (as shown in the video) or it can be rotated by rotating a crankshaft? My car’s engine is in and I wanted to change the rocker cover gasket, thus, to do the clearance check whilst there.. Thank you! 🙏🏻

Hi Peter!! I was wondering what you think about if my 2000 Toyota Camry 2.2l engine with 202k miles runs excellent and is very quiet should I bother with checking the valve clearances? I just put a new valve cover gasket on. New fuel filter,new air filter, new spark plugs,new PVC valve,and what really made so much difference in performance and it stopped the miss was a original Toyota Map Sensor. It runs PERFECT. Wish the body was nice. Lots of dents. I got it this way three years ago for a thousand dollars. Now trying to figure out where to buy cheap but goot tires? Any ideas? 205/65/15. Thank you Sir 😊👍👍👍👍.

Hey, all you have to do is put gas in the tank and drive this Camry 2.2 for the next 27 years. Your car's 2.2 engine is an absolutely Super Great engine. It was made in the 1990s and is better and more durable than the newer 2.4 machine. 👍😀😀 Hi Peter!! I was wondering what you guys think, if my 2000 Toyota Camry 2.2L with 202,000 miles runs great and is very quiet, should I bother checking the valve clearances? I just installed a new valve cover gasket. New fuel filter, new air filter, new spark plugs, new PVC valve, and what really made such a difference in performance and stopped the cheating was the original Toyota Map Sensor. It works PERFECTLY. I hope the body is comfortable. Lots of dents. I got it this way three years ago for a thousand dollars. Are you now trying to figure out where to buy cheap but bad tires? Any ideas? 205/65/15. Thank you sir 😊👍👍👍👍.

Good ,Peter, According to your experience, how often do you need to adjust for this model? In general, does the clearance become larger or smaller?
@PeterFinnTheCarDoctor3 жыл бұрын
Toyota Camry keeps normally Valve clearances very well. But check is recommend. Normally clearance becomes larger.
@brusk39783 жыл бұрын
Check every 48k miles according to the same manual he used and also I’ll add the formula to use in case you don’t have a chart for the camshaft follower…. Toyota implements this formula for valve adjustment…. N=T+(A-V) T- thickness of the old shim or follower A- valve clearance measured N- thickness of the new shim or follower V- desired valve clearance

In a case where all valve shims are mixed together accidentally..how do i know where each valve shims are supposed to go?
@vaman862 жыл бұрын
so ……….It’s done cold and U have to pull the camshaft off every time you need to make an adjustment ……and re torque it wen u put it back on again? Wow…..

Lol ……. can we send the head, valves, lifters and camshaft to you to adjust the clearances?
