How do you prevent the walls corrosion? Special cement or something else?
@EastWestSeedKnowledgeTransfer2 жыл бұрын
Bricks are used in the set-up. Cemented hollow blocks can be used too. Do not use metal materials.

Di we have to make holes in the bottom of the vermicompost bin?
@EastWestSeedKnowledgeTransfer3 жыл бұрын
Yes you can add a hole at the bottom to drain water, but make sure to patch with a mesh wire to avoid the earthworm from getting out the hole. In some set up like using drums, you can add a faucet (at the bottom part) where you can turn on to flush out excess water.

why is it so dry and why are you encouraging the drying of it?
@EastWestSeedKnowledgeTransfer2 жыл бұрын
Air drying is recommended when the vermicompost is to be stored - but not too dry and still keep 20-30 % moisture, which is related to microbial activity and nutrient retention. This study will help understand the reason behind it. www.researchgate.net/publication/336473473_Effect_of_Storage_Conditions_on_Vermicompost_Quality

I am burying store crates upside down in my garden everywhere this growing season. I am gonna feed them from my table bunny poo and leaves . But if you want your garden full of worms in a large tub soak shredded leaves routine food and corn meal and put that in your outdoor ingarden worm farms. You will be very happy. Mulch heavily in winter to protect yiud worm friends. Oh and they drastically will reduce yiur garbage bill

Don't completely dry vermicimpost as you kill the microbes that make vermicimpost so valuable in soil.
@EastWestSeedKnowledgeTransfer3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the additional information. Excellent point. Indeed it is important not to dry it well for the beneficial microbes that come with the vermicompost. It is also the reason why it was mentioned to be air dried and not sun dried.
