How to DOUBLE your Profits :)
In leatherwork a lot of time is spent worrying about yields, planning the best cuts on a hide to get the most useable pieces. Sometimes on thicker leather it can be difficult to figure out what to do with the off cuts, which are often times sizeable but juuuuuuust a bit to small to make a pouch or a bag from.
In this video I talk about adding value to a piece just by upping it's presentation, doubling the price and making the work look a lot more polished. This gives more value to your customer, and with a little extra work can not only monetize your scrap but make you double the profit on the piece as well :)
Happy Crafting!

I've been re-watching a lot of your videos on the business side (prepping to file the paperwork in my state to start a side business). Something not really talked about in the YT leather world is dealing with the intellectual property side of things. Since you sell patterns and have gone through the patent process for the Bottlehook, it would be great if you could do a video touching on dealing with that side of the business.

First of all, you are an inspiration to me. My Question is, where to start selling our products? Is it ebay, farmers market, ect? What is the easiest route for an introvert to start selling? The lest human contact, the best. (I realize this is counter intuitive)

you don't. Leatherworkers are generally very poor. Some meet success but it requires way more time and energy and also $ than you are going to invest or want to invest, especially if you do not like talking to people. Because that's essential.

Hi I have just found your channel and just wondered how you started off and what to use with a very limited budget. Also where to get it from would be great because I don’t have a clue.

Great video! How about "how to get your first online sales". I've been making leather goods for just over 2 years now and while I do well at local markets my online shop is circling the drain. I've tried free shipping, I'm paying for ads on Social and Google now and just can't get conversion on the site. How do I break out of being followed by a bunch of other makers to actually get sales?!

Would the mould work well if you double up the leather so you could glue a liner to under side?

I’ve seen folks double up in molds like this, just use leather half the thickness so you’re not exceeding the tolerances.

Betting if you threw a piece of wood over the top to help even the pressure, you could manage.

I pick up a lot of leather from Goodwill outlet centers. Purses, satchels, etc. - all thick leather, not jackets. Do you have any recommendations for use? Thank you!

Do you need to do anything to the leather or will it just naturally just be able to absorb and dissipate moisture over and over without deteriorating? Is there a specific type of tanning or animal that works best with this or will any leather scrap be suitable?

Well I can’t double my profits because they are 0, and you can’t multiply 0 by 2. I mean you can but it’s still 0, which is not double. Welcome to Pre-Algebra.

I mean you can, as long as you don't try to devide your profits by the number of customers you have, because that mathematically won't work at all ;)
