About this video: This video is our complete guide on how to download and install Optifine 1.20.4 in Minecraft. First things first, we will need to download Optifine 1.20.4. There is a link in the description above to do this, and that will take you to our complete text guide on getting Optifine for Minecraft. That guide is great if you have any issues with getting Optifine that we don’t cover how to fix in this video.
Once you are there, click on the “Download Optifine” button to go to the Optifine download page. On that page, locate the Minecraft 1.20.4 version. Depending on when you are watching this, you may need to click the “Preview Versions” toggle before you will be able to see the 1.20.4 download. After you have the Minecraft 1.20.4 version, click the “Mirror” link on the OptiFine version under.
This will take you to the Optifine 1.20.4 download page where you can click the “Download” button and start downloading the Optifine Installer. Depending on your browser, you may need to keep or save the file.
After you have the Optifine Installer downloaded, right-click on it, select “Open With”, and then “Java”. Click “Okay”, and the Optifine Installer will open. If you can’t open OptiFine with Java, you will need to download Java and run the Jarfix, linked in the description above. This will allow you to then have Java and use it to open Optifine.
Make sure Minecraft and the Minecraft Launcher are closed, and then, in the OptiFine installer, click “Install”. As long as you have played Minecraft 1.20.4 vanilla before, OptiFine 1.20.4 will be installed!
In order to play Minecraft with Optifine 1.20.4, open up the Minecraft Launcher, click the little arrow next to the “Play” button and select Optifine. Click “Play” and click “Play” again to confirm you are playing modded Minecraft. Minecraft 1.20.4 will now open with OptiFine installed!
To see Optifine’s features, navigate to Options, Video Settings, and you will see all of Optifine 1.20.4’s features including shaders, performance settings, and more. No matter what you are looking to get out of Minecraft with Optifine 1.20.4, it can be found and setup using the Video Settings tab.

If you're trying to put Optifine 1.20.4 into Forge, then it will not work. Optifine 1.20.4 is not currently applicable to forge.
