How to Download MT4 Historical Forex Data: MetaTrader 4 Tutorial

You may not be seeing all of the Forex historical data that is available and that can be a bad thing.
Think of it, if you are only seeing part of the data, you may be missing previous support and resistance points, price gaps and more.
This Metatrader 4 tutorial that will show you how to download additional historical Forex data for automated backtesting and price action trading. MT4 will typically download about 120 months of data, but when you manually download data, you can get 500 months or more, depending on the currency pair.
You can download this data in the History Center. Keep in mind that the historical data you download will be specific to your broker.

Thanks for answering the previous question. Is there a way to export multiple selected currency pairs in one shot. Secondly, the exported currencies begin from the previous date from top to current/present date at the bottom. How do I reverse them?

You can only export 1 at a time. Switch the order in Excel.

I'm trying to import .csv historical data downloaded from Dukascopy. When clicking on "import" button, it only lets me select one .csv file at a time. Is there an optimal way to do this in bulk?

You can only upload to the pair/timeframe that is selected.

It helps if you want monthly data but if you want 5 min data it only goes back a few months, so the problem is getting 5 min data back years not a few months, solve that one if you can

how does my result using EA in VM is different in compare to my original MT4 ? Data history used are matched.

You would have to go through trade by trade to see where the difference is. Depending on how sensitive the EA is to price, you can even get a different result on the same machine. Also check spread, EA settings (it can be easy to forget that you changed something) and the data type you're using. Tick data is usually the most accurate. If it's not those things, then it usually comes down to how the EA is programmed.

It's free. The amount of data you can access depends on which broker/server you use.

Hi, I'm assuming that you have a bad tick. You can go into the data download screen, highlight the line you want to change, then delete or edit the line.

@@TradingHeroes I tried that but all it shows is the "TW MetaTrader 4" Usually you can double click it and all the pairs shows up but for me it doesn't work. I tried uninstalling it and it's still doing the same thing. Any ideas?

Don't do this if you are using the data for optimization. The broker's data and Metaquotes are very different, so your system may not work as intended and will make you lose money when going live. This affects systems on the shorter term and high frequency the most.
