This guide explains the principles of the downloop transition on a twintip board. It reviews the kite control, then the technique for a basic downloop transition, and then downloops combined with carving turns. Try your first downloops in very light wind, so you can mitigate the risk of injury while learning.

Great! Thanks for this tutorial! For me it turned out to be important to always fly the kite a bit up before initiating the downloop. Otherwise the wing tips may touch be water, which will stop the kite and may result in a messy inversion of the kite...I have a video from a downwinder in Dakhla on my channel with some downloops...I have cut out the part where the kite got inverted, just flying for some moments on the safety line a bit like a 1-liner...;-)))

Thank you for all the top notch instructional videos! I tried this for the first time today and had success. Although, I did have a few crashes, mainly due to getting confused on which way to spin the bar after the loop is complete. Hopefully that will become muscle memory soon!

Well done eric. You don't need to be in a rush to spin the bar btw. You can still control the kite perfectly well, then slow down and spin the bar when you're ready.

Thanks, do you find it helpful? I've been trying it out that backpack mount recently. It can get a range of angles as the arm is adjustable. Although, to stop the arm wobbling, you need to make the chest straps so tight you can hardly breath .

@@kitesurfcollege While I LOVE your videos (ALL of them) my initial reaction to the follow cam shot was more or less 'meh'. I felt kinda disorientated. I very much prefer the drone shots (or just regular from-the-shore shots) where you can see the rider and the kite together with the hands/bar graphic overlay. If the camera moves too much (here with the backpack or even just zooming in and panning) it's hard or impossible to see the line the rider takes. Closeups are awesome for body position / movement (e.g. board position for the Darkslide) though, but even then I'd prefer a 'fixed' camera with a horizontal horizon 😉 Hope that helps. Thank you for all your spectacular work! 🥳

Hello Andres, thankyou for your kind words, and I'm glad my videos have helped you get more out of kiting. There are a few options for people who want to support myself making more content. There's youtube membership, paypal tip jar, patroen etc. I'll put the info below for anyone that's interested. Thanks again, and all the best, from Alex & Christie. -KZbin Memberships kzbin.info/door/2AvhQhxmgRpM32IYE5qkOAjoin This costs a monthly fee of about $3. It helps support my channel, and members get some extra content, plus all the normal tutorials are then available ad-free for members. This is probably the more effective platform overall. -Paypal Tip www.paypal.com/paypalme/kitesurfcollege This is basically a link to my paypal that can be used by people that wish to send a tip. -Patreon You probably know the idea of patreon. However, I am thinking about closing my patreon account, as the new KZbin membership system takes less of a cut and has far more features. I haven't come to a decision yet. Most people prefer the YT membership system, however, I know some people like patreon because it's moves away from the Google/KZbin ecosystem. However, the cost of running patreon effectively is quite high. www.patreon.com/kitesurfcollege -Vimeo I also a tutorial movie for sale on vimeo. However, I might also shut this down as the fees are quite high and the new YT systems seems superior. player.vimeo.com/video/297437576

Apart from turning during light wind, is there a purpose for doing downloops? Something to do with safety?
@kitesurfcollege
@kitesurfcollege Жыл бұрын
Hello Casper, sometimes there is a purpose for a downloop. When kiteboarding or kitefoiling in very light wind, the kite is less likely to loose line tension in a downloop. Or if someone is riding close behind/upwind and you need to turn, then a downloop transition will keep the kite low and move you downwind. Or if you're on a wave in on-shore wind, and suddenly start loosing line tension, a downloop can save you when nothing else would. So there can be a purpose, but at first I'd learn it simply because it's fun and fast - plus it's a gateway to lots of other kite loop skills.

Would it be possible to make a video on Heliloops? When to use & how to execute? I think a tutorial with your quality level could make a difference- There is nothing really good on this topic available
@kitesurfcollege
@kitesurfcollege 4 жыл бұрын
Hi. Yes, I think this would be useful for many people. If you loop the wrong way, or at the wrong time, a heli loop won't do its job. There will be a detailed explanation of heli-loops in both the jumping higher video AND in the aerial loops video. These are both in production atm. Just waiting for the right day to get some missing footage for both of these. Fingers crossed for some solid wind soon.

Very good tutorial. when trying this I regularly crashed my kite. I see in the tutorial a slight move up before looping. Is that recommended?
@kitesurfcollege
@kitesurfcollege 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's definitely helpful. If you steer up first, that gives more room to downloop and you can potentially complete the downloop without diving the kite too low. Lower down the pull is less forgiving and you can potentially fly the kite into high power zone.

Is it okay learning the downloop with bodydrag with an 12qm gts at 12 knots or is the kite too big?
@kitesurfcollege
@kitesurfcollege 4 жыл бұрын
Hello Rowbin. That sounds about right. It's mainly the wind speed that makes learning downloops more risky. While riding completely downwind during the downloop, the kite will force you downwind at approximately the wind speed. So in 12 knots you won't be heading downwind too fast. If you edge against your 12sqm however you will feel it's pull, so you must still make sure to be riding fully downwind towards the kite as it crosses the window. A good day to start, is one where it's so light that you're struggling to ride upwind on your 12. Let me know how it goes.
@Rowbin56

so .. ride downwind first, sheet in and steer the bar at the same time right?
@kitesurfcollege
@kitesurfcollege Жыл бұрын
Hi jopher, more or less. You're not really sheeting in, rather you're bringing in one side of the bar until fastest turning of the kite is achieved, making sure to push out with the non steering hand to avoid tensioning the other steer line.

Hello V K. Your fear is good for your survival. Wait for a moment where the wind is so light that you can hardly ride. Maybe 10knots. Then make your first attempt. Once you can do downloop transitions easily in 10 knots, then next time you can do it in 12knots, then 15 and so on. You can also try some downloops while bodydragging in 10 knots for practice. Good luck.
