2013 ISX 15-I got frustrated after crank but no start condition trying everything, So I loosened the cap And tried to start it like that, it lost prime. I’m assuming there’s a lot of air in the system now?

What if I drained out the water separator but it’s still saying that there’s water in the fuel do I have to drain both of the fuel filters so there’s nothing in them and then add fuel back to the one that see-through

I have a 2017 international with a Cummins.. I changed the water separator filter, but I drain all the fuel out.. now it starts and run, but it doesn’t hold fuel in the separator. What did I do wrong and how can I fix it?
