AC compressor refrigerant oil capacity is usually stamped on the compressor. After you add oil to the ac compressor you should cycle the ac compressor by rotating the clutch plate three to four times. Remember to check the compressor to see how much refrigerant oil is recommended.

How do I flush a Gm R4 Harrison a/c compressor. This compressor looks brand new and appears to have been a very recent replacement before this 1993 Buick Roadmaster Limited winded up in a salvage yard. The vehicle still had plenty of Freon in it's still closed system, which appeared to have been converted from R12 to the R134A Freon, because it had the R134A adapter fittings on the dryer & high side line. However when I opened the system a bright green color substance was captured,leak detector?

informative. My 91 explorer takes 7oz. As mentioned below, it should be around 4 to 5 oz in the compressor and the other 2 to 3oz in the evaporator and accumulator/drier. I just got a new Denso compressor. Denso says that it should be plug and play and that the right amount of oil is already in the unit. Well... I turned it down and hardly anything drained out. I let it drip for about an hour and I'd say that only about 10-20 drips of oil came out! Good thing I checked. So, make sure you check your new compressor, even if the manufacturer says it already comes with oil in it.

May i add something important to this comment. Always use DEC (double end capped) PAG oil whenever DIYing. That way, you won't have to worry about the oil catching moisture while handling it. Even though they're cheaper, leave SEC (single end capped) PAG and Ester (they're both hygroscopic) to shops equipped with AC machines.

My truck started leaking a clear oily fluid today out of the blue. I drove it 4 day's ago and not since. The A/C Compressor did stop working about 2 weeks ago, could it have just been compressor oil finally leaking out? It makes no sense. All fluids I can see to check are fine. The only fluid I cannot check is this and Transmission. Any ideas?

I believe you should put most oil into the compressor, and some in your accumulator (found with orifice tube systems), or put a small amount in your liquid line receiver dryer (TXV systems).

Ive never done maintenance to it.

Is there a way to add oil to the compressor installed in the car without some sort of injector? I have a bottle of oil but no way to inject it. Can i pour it in the low pressure side. Im replacing the entire high pressure line and have the tools to make a vacuum and check its level.

You can get an oil charge can.
@jjenson2006
@jjenson2006 6 жыл бұрын
If you're pouring it in, it means the system is open and there is no pressure. You should be adding it to the high side, not the low side. The low side is the suction side of the compressor and a compressor cannot compress a liquid directly. You will blow the compressor up if you poured it in the low side before recharging.

I owned an automotive air conditioning and radiator shop starting in 1973. Still open to day 48 years later. We always flush the old oil and debris out of the system when we change a compressor. There should be instructions in the box with the compressor as to what kind of oil and how much oil it has in it. When in doubt, drain and add the proper amount and type of oil. * 4 Seasons has a great guide for the oil in a compressor at: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f3PMfZSZrMeUhdk It covers where to add the oil so the compressor gets oil on startup but not slugged with oil. Some compressors have a crank case and some get lubricated with the returning refrigerant and mist of oil.

@chadrose 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed Patrick, I have an 05 accord j30 and did the compressor, condenser coil, accumulator/drier and TXV all with 4 Seasons on RockAuto and added some PAG46 oil to all parts that equals the amount for the car, then pulled a vacuum and charged the system. And it is cooling great and no slugging on the compressor
@stout890
@stout890 9 жыл бұрын
so to clarify, the new compressor came full of oil and you have to empty it to measure it. than you adjust the amount to what your car calls for and than pour that amount back into the compressor?
@SergeantExtreme
@SergeantExtreme 9 жыл бұрын
+jason stout No, the amount of oil you add to your compressor should be stamped on the compressor itself. As you use the AC compressor, some of the oil will burn up, so it will be less than the proper amount.
@stout890
@stout890 9 жыл бұрын
gotcha ok thanks!, that makes sense. when i did mine last week the old compressor had a lot less oil in it than i ended up leaving in the new one. my cars manual said "even if no oil drains out of the old compressor do not remove more than 50ml of oil from the new compressor" so i took out 50ml and installed it.
