I did this on my volvo 23' VNL860. I actually went overboard and actually emptied the whole thing. All I did was prime the fuel by turning key on/off a few times then truck started right up.

The black on your filter element could be the beginning of algae in your fuel.If it flakes it's carbon if not it's algae...

when is the best time to drain it? In the morning before or at the end of the trip? Im afraid to drain It and my engine not start as it happened with my friend. Engine on or off?

You can warm the engine up then turn off, only drain a few inches of fuel at a time. You should be able to see the fuel level at all times, just don't drain fuel where you can't see it anymore. Turn engine on and idle 3 minutes. All the water should be out of your filter quite quickly... 't

Changed that filter today…truck won’t start now. Tried priming it. Fuel kelt bubbling and sucking it in. Im lost on what to do

Sounds like you need to get more fuel thru your line from the tank, there should be a pump to manually do it, or fill up your fuel filter with as much fuel as you can. Just need to burp out the air and get solid fuel to build pressure. Sometimes I've had to manually pump the system 1 to 2 minutes to build up the pressure...Good luck!

Hey coming from your winter mountain driving video. I am about to go to orientation and with my first mentor on the 29th after thanksgiving, I got my CDL on the 26th of October. Everything I have read including owners manuals says to not use jake brakes in the winter on snow etc like that, I am assuming manual mode will be enabled otherwise just burn up the brakes lol? I was hoping for some advice on that stuff, thanks

Best thing to do in that situation is to keep a slow speed. you don't want to be moving faster than you can safely stop, so keep a good distance and make sure that the distance in front of you between you and the next vehicle is far enough that you can stop safely. When you put your brake on, you don't want to put the brake all the way on, you just want to give it a couple of light taps because if you engage the brake all at once, you will start to skid on icy roads. If you feel like you cannot safely maintain a reasonable travel speed as well as a reasonable following distance, just pull over. By law you cannot be penalized for ending your run due to inclement weather conditions. So just gently ease into the break repeatedly until you come to a safe stop to avoid skidding and brake lock up.

No, you should be fine 90% of the time. Usually change fuel filter when u do service

Im just realize that this issue comes up when I head out of state and fuel out there. Other videos do say it could be due to bad fuel not sure what’s your thought on that?

@nubia millan Odds of bad tank maybe one time, but not the other 99% of the time. Fuel is decent just about all States and Fuel locations. If you have a ton of water often run your tanks super low. U might have water settling at bottom...
