Well your advice applies not only to drawing but to pretty much everything! On another note, one of the ways i find to draw something well is to research a lot. I scour the net for all kinds of tutorials and even time-lapse videos of different artists and their approach to drawing. After that I practice it for as much time as needed for me to be able to do it from my mind :) See you next tuesday!

So true! I played guitar for 10 years before I started drawing and was able to apply a lot of the principles I learned from practicing guitar to drawing.

Genesis Waves Huh. I've been drawing for years and I'm currently trying to learn how to use music programs on my computer. (I have a music ear and absolutely no musical knowledge at all. :V) I find that the philosophies and discoveries I made with art apply pretty well to that too. The human body and mind and how it learns from experience is neat.

I love your art but mostly I love your personality, see you dont just put a art peice out there you take the time on every single video to read and comment back on multiple comments and questions you take the time to try helping those who seek your help, its like having a doctor who truely cares about your wellness. just a beautiful soul, I would love it if you drew a ghostly soul presence in the northern lights or something to represent your dedication to helping people.

My tips are, don't get frustrated, your lines tend to get thicker because you push harder, write softly and in strokes (small strokes when necessary, and don't hesitate to make soft lines, use erasers, and guidelines. Thanks for another amazing video Leonardo! ~ Carson

Leonardo, I would just like to say that I have been SO interested in art since I was five and everyone has told me how good I am. I always find ways to learn, but at many times I feel as if I cannot do it. But, as I have been watching your videos, I have realized that with more practice learning the right techniques, I can do it. So thank you for inspiring me. You really are an absolutely amazing artist and I love learning from your videos. I have drawn your green apple drawing and it looks great, so thank you SO MUCH! Please keep making these wonderful tutorials!

My tip? Observation. As soon as I can draw "what I want" (I mean, the lines and the tones), make a pretty draft is not as simple as it seems to be. A tiny detail could make a drawing a lot better, so I try to see what are the best curves, tones, colors [...] which fit the more on each situation. As I don't draw fantasy/abstract things, my best tools are my eyes and memory. Combined with a good mood, imagination, distraction and some "love drawing", we can produce unbelievable illustrations. And of course, as you said, we will not stop to learn new techniques, concepts...

I think that your artist tips, will help others get inspired to really become an artist and pursue their dreams, like you said " Obviously, I wasn't born drawing this way; but since long time ago I took it very seriously, I have been practicing, practicing and practicing. Everyday as many hours as possible" this may act like a motto for them to achieve their dream. For example they will think, that if you can become such an amazing artist, then they could become one as well, but with such good practicing everyday.

My "secret" is being patient and not rushing. I remember when I finished the first drawing I was really proud of. I spent about 10 hours on it (18x24). When I was finished I had this amazing feeling of looking at it and not even believing that I had drawn it. Patience is key.

Awesome video! :D I agree with the tips you gave out, because I tell people it takes a lot of practice to achieve the skills you want to reach. A friend told me that I don't need to go to art school just because I'm good at drawing. That's not necessarily the case. I want to attend to art school to learn MORE about art. Art schools doesn't teach you how to draw or paint well, they just teach you the basic and advanced techniques as well as art history. As you've mentioned, getting better drawing is something you'd have to do on your own even if you look at videos, books, or websites. You learn by doing. :)

I think your tips will definitely help and inspire others who are trying to pursue their goal in art! One of my tips is to definitely practice whenever, wherever! Wherever I go, I make sure to bring a pencil and a sketch book! I commonly travel to Europe, and I love to sketch the gorgeous churches there! Another tip would be to use references when needed! If you are confused on a drawing, or something looks off, I definitely take a peek at another artist's work, or perhaps better, a photo reference (if possible!). The last tip I would give is, that if you truly want to be an artist, ask others for tips, study anatomy, and just learn! Soon you will have your own style and you will be an artist that you've always wanted to be! But honestly, it takes years and years to pursue this goal/dream! And I know you know it! I love your videos, you inspire me, and thank you! I can't wait to see future videos from you!

That is correct Practice, Practice, Practice. also you have to know what you are doing and art has all kinds of rules and you have to follow those for they are the real basics of the subjects. They call rules Techniques. You have to work at it and it is a life long learning. You develop the skills and understanding of the subject as you learn like learning to read and write or anything else for that matter. And if you don't get rid of the attitude that you can't draw a line then you won't ever learn because you set up that block in your mind and you don't try to get by it. This artist spent a life time learning his craft that is why he is so good. Have a nice week end you all. Marie

Really nice video. I think dragonflies are so beautiful and have been planning to try drawing one sometime. I agree completely with your advice. I think it's important for people not to let themselves get discouraged, even if they are not yet happy with their art skills. Giving up is the worst thing you can do. When I was a kid, I loved drawing, until I looked around me and noticed that some of the other kids could draw better than I could... at least that was my perception, whether it was true or not, I can't tell you now. The point is, I consciously decided not to draw anymore because I didn't think I was good at it. Now, many years later, I've decided to pick it up again. I just love it and I can see now that I am quite good at it and have a lot of potential. I think my art ability improved a lot in a very short time just from learning some techniques from books and the internet. It just shows that "talent" is far from the only thing that's involved. I think people should think of art ability as a skill that's learned rather than as a gift that some people have and others don't.

As usual a great vid. You asked about my secret... well... to be honest my biggest secret is I finally found a way to control my ADHD. After that I listen and watch vids like yours and through drawing the example in the video over and over it becomes second nature and better with each drawing. If you do something at least once a day for 21 days it will become a habbit... This can work 2 ways though... if you do something wrong for the same 21 days it will become a bad habbit. Thus find the way to do it right and to it right for 21 days... It works for me! :)

When I'm in a bad mood, I draw vent art, although none of my vent art really looks like it. I try to turn really negative feelings into something beautiful that others will enjoy. I actually find it much harder to draw when I'm in a good mood. I guess, for me, art helps fill some need my body has. I'm trying to motivate myself to be more productive in good moods though. They say painting while listening to music is good for depression, although obviously that isn't true for everyone.

i don't really have secrets. I guess two of the most obvious ones are to practice, which isn't really a secret. But I've been drawing properly for almost 2 years, and I never expected to become as good as I am now. The other, go on KZbin for techniques and tutorials XD I learned a lot of the stuff I know now from KZbin tutorials, especially from you. (:

For some reason I draw things much better after careful observation in real life. What helps even more than observation is feeling/touching what I observe. Somehow the touch sense adds a 3-d aspect to what I've observed Example I've gotten pretty good at drawing heads/skulls and hands just by constantly feeling my own head or hand. Also a big tip... never force a creative moment. If you're not overly inspired or in some sort of creative delerium, then practice simple things like different perspective drawing or try drawing mandalas(sacred geometry). Finally switch media if painting go to pencil... if drawing on toned paper try a switch to white paper.

what would you recomend be a good thing to try drawing multiple times to build different skills for example. what should I try drawing to improve my shading skills and what should I draw to improve my water blending skills for pictures partially in water or out of water what would be the best practice for being able to know the right shade thats needed to make it look like its under water or if its not

For those situations it is important to observe very well, from life or from reference photos or videos, to really understand each of those subjects you mention. Then copy the best, but not just a photographic copy but rather, understanding what you are doing and creating.
