ingenious method! so the match cannot be allowed to turn or the width of spirals will vary? i imagine you have to carefully control the tension on the thread to avoid this?

I'm glad I watched this, because I had a similar idea using a thin nail, but I thought the lines would be too close together, more like a vinyl record. He gets a pretty good gap between the layers with that match. I'm surprised

The magnet is under the paper, the pin is attracted by the magnet and sticks to the paper.

I used a similar method, ie each turn = one circumference of the match, I did it outwards but there is the error of the thickness of thread used which is eliminated by using the 2 point method.

i immediate recreate this technique after i watch the video,unfortunately,my gap is almost an inch apart! thus the size of the pivot pin affects the gap of its spiral?i use 1 1/2 nail as a pivot point.

You can control the distance between the lines by selecting a different size pin. This method is not prefect, because with each turn the pin is covered with thread and becomes bigger
