Any advise on shading? One of my biggest hurdles has always been color and shading. I tend to place shading inappropriately, the best way for me to put it. Maybe a little video lesson in honor of my troubles, would be pretty cool. Thank you and I enjoy your work.

Hey man, thanks for your kind words! I do plan on teaching my whole color and shading process, that I usedfor these videos, down the road! In general terms, start lighter with shading, then go darker. The darker shading will provide the depth. Drawing and shading shapes like spheres, cylinders, and squares, is good practice, although I've always found it a bit of a bore. Do try and imagine where your light source might be coming from (pick a side), then shade accordingly. I do enjoy drawing actual items from life. Maybe take a white skull, or white object of some sort, light it from the side, and then observe where the shadows fall and draw what you see. Drawing from life is one of the best things you can do to improve your shading skills. If you ever get a chance to draw from a nude model, this will also help your drawing skill. I believe as your overall drawing skill improves, the shading and coloring are pulled along for the ride and also improve. I also HIGHLY recommend re-drawing, shading/coloring, the artwork of one of your favorite artists in whatever genre you like. Old masters used to draw and copy the paintings of other masters, and you should too! Practice copying, as exactly as you can, like this for 20-30 minutes per day, and what you will find is that their drawing methods, shading techniques and color methods start becoming infused into your original artwork. I have copied many Sailor Jerry pages over the years, and it is forever infused into my style. Copying is one of the best ways to learn and improve, and it is a habit of mine to do it every day!
