6:03 “the impact of gravity” is a great cue. Reminds me of a video I saw of a young woman experiencing several G forces in a jet cockpit. The video started mid turn and her face looked to be about 60-70 years old. After the turn, the soft tissue returned to place and you could see she was clearly in her 20s.

i had an art teacher mention how cartilage keeps growing as we age. take a look at photos of people over a hundred years old, and look at their nose, ears and hands, even without drawing any wrinkles, just drawing in the extra cartilage, creates the look of age. great video, very informative, i love content like this

Funny choice of Brando, because at the time of Godfather, he was 46/47 😅 But because of the prosthetic and, of course, his wizardry acting, he looks like 60/70.
@frederickwarrick12943 ай бұрын
if i recall correctly they stuffed wadded cotton into his lower gums to give him a "jowly" older look

Yeah! We show the device at 7:10ish

They just nailed it perfectly, showing what to target to make a convincing older look. We had to pick it!
@jojojo88353 ай бұрын
Acting aside, he doesn’t look as old as 60-70 to me. But then I’m a similar age- perhaps when I was 20 everyone over 30 looked uniformly geriatric 😂

Thank you for this! Nowadays it seems people are growing older but without as many stereotypical wrinkles. (Love that SPF 50!) I'm in my mid 50s but no noticeable wrinkles yet. However, while I can avoid sun I can't avoid the 'impact of gravity'. I got a 5-minute sketch done not long ago and while I was flattered, it made me closer to 15yo than 50 with big apple cheeks and skin tighter than a trampoline; almost a caricature though that wasn't the intent. It was like they only knew older = wrinkles. My mother was a young sun worshipper so the artist had a lot to work with and you can tell mom was more in their wheelhouse than my confusing face. 😄

Is this also the method proko uses for head construction? It looks familiar but I'm not sure or not
@ProkoTV3 ай бұрын
It's pretty similar, with a little loose placement of a couple things, rather than a fully drawn out Loomis head you'll have seen in some of our videos. Stan will also use a modified Loomis method sometimes. Feel free to check out the differences where Hampton has chosen to change it up, compared to the full Loomis method: kzbin.info/aero/PL39135B8D190B7C97&si=bZxfeYA44oSrIYt-

I think you got in your own way a little here. No disrespect but at about the 17.50 mark i was thinking of the football play diagram in the old Disney Goofy "How to Play Football" cartoon! 😁 A great video but, since you are working digitally, I think you could have made it clearer with different colours for fat and skull or muscle, and the drawing itself, alongside layers that you could turn on and off, for different things. A script, better forward planning and some rehearsal might have made things clearer, more concise and less stream of consciousness. Don't get me wrong, the knowledge was there and after three watches I think I got the benefits of the lesson. But it wouldn't make me want to rush and pay the $99 for the full course.

Proko need material effect, like leather, metal, chains, expolsions, smoke, if you could put it in one or two vids it would be something to cherish and it would be highly appreciated
@ProkoTV3 ай бұрын
We have some courses that cover that in ways that are specific to their medium/topics. Since there are specifics to each of those that don't apply as directly to the wider rules of art, we haven't made any of them free videos but maybe in the future!

i love drawing old people. Most times I do it unintentionally tho, in simplified/stylized styles (like the one I try to do) adding any subtle expresion line adds 30 years to the character its so annoying

You make all this complex construction. But you didnt even get the proportion of his head right! The eyes are wayy too high! In the photo eyes are more or less in the middle of the skull. And in your drawing they are way higher!!! I dont know what youre doing. But youre not looking at actual proportions!!!
@ProkoTV2 ай бұрын
You're right! This is a video about the telltale age markings, not proportions. If you do want a video about proportions and how to get those in perfectly compared to your reference, we got you! kzbin.info/www/bejne/gWndZYGHgs55ga8si=8rr96WxSvvCTjJlD

it cracks me up that Brando has wads of cotton in his mouth

The story has is that the cotton was what he explored the idea with but that he wore a proper device made by a dentist for the actual film. We show that at 7:10.

Very interesting method, but I think I will stick with the traditional method of drawing, much more satisfying without all of this mambo-jumbo

what does this even mean
@piefatal3 ай бұрын
its just basic anatomy of the bone and fat pads
@ProkoTV3 ай бұрын
We're not sure either, honestly lol This is a pretty traditional method of construction for pieces you'll spend time rendering. But we're assuming they mean that they want to draw without as much construction or considering the underlying forms in this kind of a conscious way.
