About this video:
Hi friends, welcome back to another Sketchbook Pro tutorial. In this video, we’ll go over radial sketching using our radial symmetry and steady stroke tools.
Radial symmetry allows you to replicate any sketch by dividing the canvas in a circular manner. In Sketchbook Pro, you can divide the canvas into up to 16 parts. This tool is ideal for creating sketches and designs that involve a symmetrical pattern throughout a circular or cylindrical path, such as mandalas, car rims, and even vase and woodturning designs.
Alongside the radial symmetry tool, we’ll be using the steady stroke tool as well. This tool will allow you to draw neat and continuous strokes by delaying the path while sketching. It is ideal if you’re having trouble achieving clean and straight lines, as well as continuous tangent strokes in your designs. The higher the number you set on this tool, the more it delays the path, resulting in cleaner strokes.
In a previous video, I showed how to draw a mandala using a white gel pen and black paper in a traditional manner. While that sketch was very fun to make, it took me a while to finish. With this digital function, you can achieve very similar results in a fraction of that time. It ultimately depends on your personal preference. Sketching the traditional way has its own charm, but when it comes to practicality and time-saving, digital sketching might be the way to go.
Friends, as always, thank you so much for watching. If you liked the video and want to see more sketching tutorials and time-lapses, don’t forget to subscribe to the channel. I also make traditional sketches and watercolors. Let me know your thoughts on this project in the comments section below!
