No one seems to address this issue which is fundamental to drawing the cube correctly!!

@@geckobaldy I've since looked into this further and come to the opinion that the placement can be anywhere. In 3D software like Maya or Blender you can create cubes, but they will appear differently depending on the camera's (that's being viewed from) Focal Length value. Higher values will cause the cube to appear more elongated from front to back because the vanishing points will appear closer to each other. Lower values will do the opposite and make the cube appear flatter given the depth of field becomes more shallow and the vanishing points will look farther from one another. So technically, a cube can be drawn with its perspective edges being long or short and still be considered a cube. The only thing that really matters is that whatever scale the artist chooses should be consistent with all other objects in the drawing/scene.
