UPDATE: "Draw Better Portraits Through the Study of Anatomy" my new full portrait anatomy course is finally here! app.gumroad.co...
In this Loomis Method Monday Ep 4 we learn how to draw heads in different angles and check their proportions. Example: First draw the circle for the head then find the Cross of the Face. Next divide the face into Thirds. From there we continue on through the steps in constructing the head. Tip: Use the location of the nose tip to fine tune proportions.
Working from line 4 off of plate 7 in the Loomis book (PDF Book Link below)
Doing these types of head drawings is a great way to learn to draw faces faster and with understanding of the fundamental head structure. The best way to learn is to try it yourself. Draw along with me!

Thank you for taking the time to do these. These have been amazingly helpful for me. Everyone says do loomis, etc, but no one really goes through the effort of showing the step by step construction and explaining the relationships between everything and distances, etc. Have made great strides in my faces and practice thanks to you.

This tutorial and your very straightforward explanations of relative distance, facial structure, etc…as well as talking through the difficulty in certain angles and how you adjust accordingly, was immensely helpful and offered me quite a breakthrough moment in how I see the perspective of the face and head. Thank you so much.

This is so helpful. I bought the book but I struggled so much even on the first face you did here, I must have done it over 10 times and just couldnt get it to work. Now I followed your video as you drew it and it came out great. Theres so much you explain that the book doesnt. I find the book quite hard to follow actually. I hope you've done more!? I'm going to watch everything you've done on Loomis. If you did a series whereby you worked through the whole book I would definitely pay for that!!

I thought it was just me, I struggled with Loomis, even with the book. When i watched your video I realized faces ARE trIcky! But I understood what you were doing to solve the problems, no formula but just plain observational skills, experience, and talent! Great video, thanks so much!

What size is the circle you're starting with? This is half my problem, I never know how big to draw it.
@Aagggyy
@Aagggyy 3 жыл бұрын
The size of the circle doesn’t matter. Proko suggests that you try to make it a circle with the width and height being relatively the same.
