Brilliant. Best comment ... "enjoy the time sketching." The speed drawing is most helpful, like quite a lot. Calm voice that does not interfere, instructions are not intrusive and every tip is duly noted. Background in landscape photography truly helps me. Thank You !!!!

For me there's somthing so very romantic about a waterfall so thanks for including one in your lovely drawing , perfectly correct about the commercial pre prept graphite powder, there is no mention as to the grade of it on the container, I do use it but like you l find it much better to "scrap" my own from a good quality graphite stick....
@smoothie77drawingpainting
@smoothie77drawingpainting 9 жыл бұрын
+Maxine Fewster I like waterfalls too, they make superb features in drawings, and in real life they are so nice to look at and listen too, Its strange that commercial graphite isn't graded, I would of thought it would be more sellable if the customer knew the tonal value of it, and had a range of various grades to choose from.

This is not as easy as it looks, as always I'm in awe at your talent. I have so much to learn from you and I'm glad that I'm able to. This is another one this week that will be consigned to a drawer marked failures lol at present I can't envisage being able to do anything right again but onwards and hopefully upwards
@smoothie77drawingpainting
@smoothie77drawingpainting 7 жыл бұрын
Definitely upwards Margaret!!! we all have a collection of failed drawings and paintings, i certainly do, and they were the ones i learnt the most from, each fail is a steppingstone to success, try not to feel bad about them, feel positive that you're trying, and you will succeed, I honestly think we learnt more from our failed drawings if we make the necessary corrections in the next one. sometimes its not just about learning what to, but learning what not to do is equally important.
@margaretbrownhill1193
@margaretbrownhill1193 7 жыл бұрын
smoothie77 I agree with you there totally, I know what went wrong with the watercolour, apart from the obvious trying to run before I could walk but I have learnt from that I know what mistakes I made and will wait till you do something to see in more detail how to !. This one learning how how to use the eraser as a drawing tool that comes with practice I think, that was the main thing I couldn't master also trying to remember that it's not a real time video so I need to persevere more expecting it to be pretty terrible in the beginning until it all comes together. Having said all that it's better to try than not to do anything at all. Thank you for always being so kind x

Wow that's beautiful drawing mate. Thanks for sharing and yes it was very helpful. It's inspired me to try that technique. I've used a technique similar to that, rubbing graphite powder from end of pencil onto paper, but mainly to lift out clouds etc. I'll msg you again once I've finished another drawing mate. Thanks again :) Edit: Just purchased 2pack of those Derwent Pencil Erasers. Can't wait to use them, so I can finally do precise and minute highlights lol.

Do you use Fixative spray to settle the drawing when you are finished with the painting?
@Debbie-ee2oj

hi smoothie, do you need to put anything on a graphite/pencil drawing to stop it from smudging or fading?
@ElijahH7101

Debbie you can buy a spray called fixative I think and that’ll help with the smudging.

thnaks for all your beautiful tutorial videos. I enjoyed them, its just a joy to watch how you work and i learned a lot from it for my own doing. And also got much inspiration out of them. Here is a question: When you finished a drawing, how do you protect them. Do you put them just behind glas or do you spray them with fixativ? My expirience with those sprays is, that some of the brilliance of the drawing gets lost. Do you have a better method?
@smoothie77drawingpainting
@smoothie77drawingpainting 8 жыл бұрын
You're welcome, thanks for the kind words, its great the hear you're getting inspired from my videos. I have used fixative in the past but now I tend not to, reason being, I have had paper buckle and warp, I always feel that framing drawings is the best way to keep them safe, most of my drawings are done using A4 paper so I place them in inside those A4 clear plastic covers that can be bought from stationary shops, I find they protect them well, as long as you don't keep taking them in and out, they should stay safe and protected until they get framed.

Hey smoothie, I used to draw a bit and now I am trying to get back into it. Your videos are really great. I have a question. What kind of eraser pencil is that you are using for the highlights and such? I would love to use one but I am having trouble locating one, so I will begin searching online. Thanks. I am looking forward to more videos.
@smoothie77drawingpainting

Hi Kurtis, the pencil eraser I'm using in this video is made by Derwent, I've recently bought one made by Koh-I-Noor that works just as well.
