I’m working that out right now...maybe outside. I’m getting my painting supplies TODAY...can’t wait to get started!

Ian Roberts So far, Provence! But the guy leading the workshop was a hard taskmaster!

It may not be painterly-correct to say so, yet my favorite place to paint is in my studio space. I find when I'm out and about in the places I love, I'm often too content in the moment to remember to grab my camera, let alone narrow my focus onto a painting surface! 🤔 Having said that, I realize you may be asking what scenes, from where, do I most like to paint. In that case, simple answer is what I know. My local views.

Anywhere...although can be tough here in Piedmont of NC because summer is a sea of green and places feel closed in, the best views are from the middle of the road!

Great video as always. I would've totally used the one where he's on the phone. I think it would be a great representation of the era. It the future, it would be considered charming.

That is cool, the bit of paper colour left as part of the drawing. Love your work.
@IanRobertsMasteringComposition4 жыл бұрын
Well honestly I had hoped more of that would be showing through in the end so it was evident the paper was doing more of the work. But I had to keep pushing the value to get to work. So yes, I suppose it's interesting that that one spot has exactly the right value for that hit of light on the canal.

Oona, this week I am showing the painting of this same image. But also as it unfolded as a painting things shifted around and I wish in fact I had used one of the other crops. I'll show you on this week's video.

That's the thing about seeing the design as the main value masses. Block that in and you find you need less and less of the details. Or at least if you apply details they fall into the value mass, and don't just become an endless catalogue of bricks. Glad you find them helpful Holly.

Ian, have you heard of this painter, Andrew Davidson? His Agatha Christie book covers particularly catch the eye. He's also done stamp covers for the Royal Mail - I'm not sure if he's done anything for the Royal Mail in Canada.
@IanRobertsMasteringComposition4 жыл бұрын
I looked him up. He seems to have done a lot of wood cuts, if we're talking about the same guy.

Ian Roberts Yes, that’s the lad, he does woodcuts, but it his Agatha Christie book covers that caught my eye.
