Hey thanks for the video, really useful. For those of you who are still wondering about the expand appearance function, think of it as rasterizing your vector brush. Once you expand appearance, certain parts of the brush stroke you've done become selectable and thus, deletable. If you're selecting all the expanded brush stroke and applying a gradient to all of it, you're doing it wrong, the gradient will come out all blocky. You should be selecting and deleting the "outer" part of the brush stroke then applying a RADIAL gradient only to the inner part. The isolate selected group only serves to highlight this visually.

Expanding and rasterising are different functions. The Object > Rasterise will convert your object into bitmap while Object > Expand / Expand Appearance separates your objects into individual components or shapes. But good explanation nonetheless.

+Sophie Thomas It took me a while to figure this out as well, but basically the part that's being highlighted (the curvy shape) you want to select it and delete it.

Юля, подскажите, пожалуйста, вы подобные работы грузите на сток в векторе или растре? У меня сток очень привередлив к различным способам наложения даже в EPS10. Постоянно отклоняет по причине bitmap.

This is a good watercolor effect, then you can just export it as a high resolution jpeg and sell it as texture or stock haha
