I think one of the absolute best points you made in this whole video was that Inktober does not exclude color. Ink comes in so many colors. It's not just black, or possibly shades of grey. One of my favorite inks to use is an orange. And it gives my drawings such a unique feel. Even using one of those cheap pens that has the 4 colors that you can change between is amazing. I think it's just the use of ink that makes people scared.. Like once its on paper you simply MUST adapt to it being there whether you wanted to make that mark, or not that is the fun of it all. But for many people thinking ink is just black is a mental stopping point. It's all colors

Indeed! It would be like thinking paint can only be black...or pencil can only be black. That's a bit nuts! Color, though a little scary and tempestuous, is such a fun inclusion. I love taking just a tiny bit of color into a black and white drawing. Adds so much crazy contrast!

I have spent a lot of time drawing fast. When I see sped up videos of drawing, I always just thought that is how you do it. Slowing down has helped a lot.

I'm thinking of doing Inktober again this year...don't think I'll go with the prompt list, but instead just focus on drawing in ink for a given time each day. I haven't done it for a couple years, got kinda burned out my first attempt...just getting some ink on paper is the goal this time around.
@zack_feldman2 ай бұрын
That's a good aim...to simply draw a few minutes a day.
@UJB123Ай бұрын
That's the whole point of Inktober, imho. 😉 It's not a competition & the prompts are simply there for general ideas of something to draw.

I want to try grays for sure! And also my hatching tends to be impatient. I think I’ll study yours a little bit more because I really like how you do it in general. Happy inktober!

Well thank you! I totally get the impatience...it is hard to slow down and make each mark exactly how it needs to be.

Maybe not exhaustive, but still a good list. This is right up my alley since I'm not going for the most detailed of drawings. I'm mainly just going to try and get through the challenge...while still having fun of course. I've got some time to practice, so that's even better.
@zack_feldman2 ай бұрын
Awesome! Yeah...exhaustive would be a long video indeed...especially getting into individual textures. I think I may start making those soon, especially after the end of October.

Not a fan of this year's prompts so I'm doing my own list this time, but super happy to at least be drawing at the same time as the community

That's great! I think it is funny how some people are so dedicated to the prompts, when you can read on the official website that the prompters don't even think you need to be.

Is there a way to follow your inktober prompt drawings? I'm doing it again this year, but I love to follow people who's art looks interesting. Trying to scroll through inktober itself is difficult to find any one person.

I should be throwing them up on Instagram each day...if I am on top of things! The links for that should be in the about section of my page. Other than that, a group of us will be sharing them in the discord server.

Hooray for Inktober! This will be a fun month and you'll make a great guide. (I might be sitting it out myself this year, as I've got a couple projects I'm still working on. We shall see...!) P.S. Color is over-rated. But then, I AM rather biased in this regard.... ;)

I love drawings that use hatching as shadows, but no matter how much I study and practice, mine always turn out really bad. :(
@zack_feldmanАй бұрын
Shadows can be difficult with hatching. I like to let the areas be darker, sometimes that works better. If you are only using hatching on shadows it can work though. If you've got some other artists who can take a look, they might be able to help with the "turning out bad!"
@AlanMoonspearАй бұрын
@@zack_feldman Thank you very much for the answer. Unfortunately I don't have anyone to hekp me, but that's okay. When I use pencil, I can shade better without using hatching, but when I use fineliners, because I only have one shade of black, I prefer to use hatching. And because of that, the drawings end up either too dark and as if they were blurred, or too light, because I used little hatching. I have two books on cross-hatching: Pen & Ink Drawing by Alphonso Dunn and Cross Hatching in Pen & Ink by August Lamm.

People who need it to be a certain month in order to participate in their own passions have no passions.
@zack_feldmanАй бұрын
Perhaps, but I think it is more of an excuse to come together and work on something as part of a community. I don't know anyone who does inktober that does no other drawing throughout the year, but the challenge of provided prompts, and the community of other people partaking can be enticing to some. Have a good one!
