Seriously, F1nn measured his shoulders in a stream to "prove" how wide and "unfeminine" they were so he "couldn't" wear certain things, and multiple AFAB folks in chat piped up to say, hey, our shoulders are that wide or wider! Lots of ballerinas have a very similar silhouette to Ashley, with a noticeable ribcage under a small chest, but that silhouette is mostly thanks to wearing a tight leotard and circle skirt, aka the outfit recommended to Ashley. I do think AMAB folks, weather trans or just trying out different clothes, fall into a bit of a trap of assuming that their bodies are uniquely unsuited to "women's" clothing and that's why nothing fits the way they want it to. However, if you go check out fashion forums by and for cis women, you'll find they experience all of the exact same problems! Turns out the only people who look like the fashion models advertising the clothes are the models themselves (and with photo editing, often even they don't look like they do in the ad) because every body is different and that affects the drape of the garment.

@@hardyorangef1nn’s stuff about height and broad shoulders and stuff is always a little funny because i’m taller and broader than him (man-shaped, you could say) as an afab person and when i was a woman, nobody ever had any issues with it. now i’m a guy it’s only benefits for me, but it didn’t really cause issues on the other side. i like to share this with trans fems cause it really isn’t as big of deal as it seems like it is coming into it!

I was born female but have an androgen disorder that affected my development. Not only do these kinds of videos help me learn how to look feminine, they also help my confidence knowing that I’m not the only girl who’s dealing with this stuff. I’m really glad there are people out there making this content and I hope trans girls know that if they’re struggling with feeling / dressing feminine, it doesn’t make them less of a woman. There are a lot of cis girls who struggle with the same feelings.

@@linneathesystemsdruid308 androgens are male sx hormones (like testosterone or DHEAS). They are higher in males and are the cause for many masculine features. But, despite the name, females also have these hormones, only in lower amounts. An androgen disorder is any disregulation related to these androgens. A pretty common hormone issue in females is PCOS which can mean higher androgens or an androgen sensitivity. My case is mild but I had it from a young age and there is evidence it can cause small changes to your skeletal structure. A common symptom is differences in where you store fat, leading to a masculine silhouette. Long story short, I’m a surf board baddie. No hips. Flat ass. All shoulders 💪🏻😎 some females with this even grow facial hair or develop male pattern baldness. When it’s severe, it can almost be like an intersex condition. This is a special interest of mine so I apologize for the wall of text but it is genuinely so fascinating. Some hypotheses about why PCOS is so common in particular is that it’s actually an adaptation that helps us survive famines. And thank you! Ever After High is such an under-appreciated show

@@GreatBansheeya fr i only buy girl pants now, 1 because i have a skinny waiste, most guy clothes dont go skinny enough in the waist without losing out on length, 2. womens sizing is so much easier, you try on a 6 if its too tight on the waist go up a number, its only one number to look at, 3rd the length doesnt change with waist size on most girl pants which makes it super easy to find something that fits especially bell bottoms

I've been watching fashion content lately because I realized I'm in my mid twenties and I should stop wearing a t-shirt and shorts every day because it makes me feel like a teenager. One of the channels I watch said that men can take a lot of cues from women's fashion if they don't want their outfits to be stuck in the boring zone of men's fashion, so I watch videos about women's fashion sometimes too. They usually have more colors and styles and I appreciate that. Though how easily I can transfer that to my own masculine outfits has yet to be determined.

As some one who transitioned (MtF) over 3 decades ago the information that both Nano and Ashley are presenting is very similar to that which was given in fashion mags back then (remember no internet in the 90s). You have to work out what works for you and what doesnt work for you. It really helps if you have a critical friend, some one who isnt scared to tell you that this colour is wrong for you or you look like a bag of spuds tied in the middle. Ashley's points about wearing extremely feminine clothes all the time is really good, no woman does this(well maybe in the 50s and 60s they did). As for the age appropriate remark, yes this is so true. Back when I was starting to transition (1991) i had 2 friends who were constantly being read, the first wore ultra femme clothes, full over the top make up all the time l (she was about 25 then), the other friend was older, yet she dressed like some one from the 50s. Both of them looked out of place so people paid more attention and thus they were read. The best bits of advice I was given was subtly de-emphasis the strong features (in my case quite broad shoulders) and emphasis the weak (make my hips look wider), smile and look like you own the place

I think that last bit could apply to women in general, but also men if you apply it in reverse. At least if you're aiming for some sort of idealized feminine or masculine appearance. --- After all, people don't all come in exactly the same shape, proportions.

i totally agree with icky i think its a bit of a toxic misconception that in order to pass you need to dress 'femininely' which is an idea we need to get rid of entirely really Men can wear skirts and spaghetti straps and still look bomb af and women can wear baggy sweaters and still look cute If i look at old pictures of myself when i was just starting to try things out, i pretty much wore exactly what the other creator told icky to wear, and god, looking at those pictures. I looked horrible! it looked disproportionate, too hyperfeminine, and dont get me wrong im a super feminine person and usually show it through my fashion, but that just wasn't it. Its just a 'trans' outfit, i barely ever see women wear stuff like that and it just really accentuated all the wrong parts. I only have one thing as a trans person i've noticed icky doesnt do and i think could help as well, which is regarding the MM6 outfit, the idea that the tight jean skirt accentuates the hips is true, but it does so even more so if its worn slightly higher, this just makes that bottom section larger, follows the full curvature of the hips toward the waist, and shortens the upperbody tremendously, which gives a really 'feminine' frame, long legs, short upper body, dont wear it too high, but usually halfway past the navel is perfect. Even with cis women who wear low cut pants or skirts on the lower region in general, i feel lose alot of hip shape, and could benefit from wearing that higher. Though it could be personal preference, but maybe something to try

I used to enjoy Nano, but they've made hurtful and gatekeeping remarks about who is or isn't trans. In a stream, they suggested one needs at least two of the following: gender dysphoria, social transition, or physical transition. This perspective invalidates those who can't transition yet due to personal circumstances. While Nano may not intend harm, she frequently defends her views without considering the feelings of others. Despite her entertaining content, I no longer support or watch her.

That's because Nano got called out precisely once for this sort of thing in a Reddit thread and seems to have developed a savior complex as a defense mechanism from it ever since in addition to openly calling on non trans folk to rush to her defense. She's put herself in a spot where she can't be wrong about one thing because it opens up room for her to be wrong about other things, so she doubles down on already bad takes in order to keep her boat from sinking. People like Icky using it as a teaching opportunity, and in doing so making it a VERY gentle rebuttal, are the best ways to handle people like that.

Case in point, I didn’t notice my dysphoria until after I had made a number of trans friends and heard their stories of dysphoria. What’s more, the more I explored my gender expression, I would often uncover “new types of dysphoria.” Point is, any “test” has to be one that doesn’t exclude anyone that now or in the future may identify as a trans person.

such a good video ❤ Personally i love dressing in a "Girl in too big boy clothes" type of way. Havent even gotten my HRT yet but i still accidentally pass all the time while supposedly boy moding. (accidentally passed in multiple countries during traveling) Ik this is anecdotal but still.. i think dressing in a forced way often creates a sence of awkwardnes? that you can sence. Dressing how you personally want to is awesome and the vibe of you being in the clothes you want to be in IMO also helps with passing. My suggestion is to look for fashion tips and inspiration WITHIN the style that you like, instead of just someone giving general instructions to "wear that to woman"

I'm a cis man, but I feel like this applies to basically everyone: it's all pieces of fabric and things. Wear what makes you feel comfortable and happy. I have a guy friend who wears skirts and a girl friend who wears cargo pants and metal band shirts. GODS YES! I'm so happy to hear you're gonna make more videos on the subject! This video was super helpful and I honestly want a whole series about fashion theory! If you could go into masculine and androgynous styles, that'd really help my enby ass figure out what directions I can go in with my personal fashion. I took a huge step in my therapy last week and I went into a clothing store for the first time in about 8 years. Not only that but I finally was able to muster the courage to look in both the men's and women's section and I bought a women's cardigan (I'm AMAB). I can't really explain how big of a step this was for me. I'm finally confident enough to show myself as I am after 13 years total of intense therapy. It did create a problem in that I now hate my whole wardrobe other than one pair of skinny jeans, four t-shirts and my new cardigan... Figures if my mom bought all my clothes for my whole life because my anxiety kept me from going to pick them out myself. Anyway, didn't mean to share my whole life story but it kinda just happened...

This is certainly super useful. Understanding the 2/3 rule is interesting in explaining why I like some of my outfits despite feeling less fem, personally I'm much more fond of a V-neckline than a scoop but that's me. I think colour also plays such an important role, going full monotone can really hinder an outfit and a splash of colour can completely change it, I'd be interested to see how for example a white bodystocking with the black skirt would look. It sounds like their suggestions (Nano's?) come from some generalized style guidelines that leaned on old hourglass-prioritizing body shape/ proportion theory? Kudos for trying to build on their commmentary by expanding perspectives on fashion (styling?) without it being a negative response. In general I think a lot of people, especially trans folks, but most of the public in general are patching together incomplete understandings of various style guides. Like the most common ones I've seen online being body shape and Kibbe (and somwtumes Kitchener but it's pretty elusive?), will have specific guidelines for *certain body proportions* that supposedly can optimize or "balance" appearances but it's definitely not one-size (or shape) fits all. Like a tip I had seen was how wider straps can work better for de-emphasizing broad shoulders, and when it comes to the oversized wear even that sometimes works better for some folks than others too though the general 1/3rds proportionality still holds up regardless of what system for helping appearances.

i’m 20 and very insecure about my body as a short girl with curves. i always feel my body is too “inappropriate” looking but any measures i take to cover up my breasts and look more masculine don’t really fit. i like being feminine, but it bothers me after constantly feeling like if i do, it’s inherently sexual. your videos are very positive and make me feel confident in myself. i’m cis so im probs not your target audience, but i like that you seem to understand fashion and that it’s not one size fits all.

What "transition" have you "started"? What other things can you magically "transition" to and from like in a fairy-tale? If you can "change" your immutable factual biological gender, then can we magically "transition" other immutable factual parts about us like our species, race, skin colour, etc? The fact people think we can "transition" gender, is utterly ridiculous! You can't change your gender. It's an immutable biological fact which has nothing to do with feelings. Any attempts to do so only ruins the body for no reason, and is like trying to run from your own two feet. All it does is make you a liar! I LOVE this video. Fashion is a form of expression, and like any art form there's not really a definitive "right" way to do it. Separating fashion from passing is extremely important too. Far too many women AND men feel the need to conform to stereotypes. While there are rules to help with fashion, it's important to recognize what those rules are there for. A shirt might accentuate shoulders, but that doesn't need to grow into an insecurity or self hate. It's like learning to draw and becoming insecure when you can't immediately draw a perfect face. Fashion is a journey that you will inevitably make mistakes on, but you'll also learn so much, and come out at the end happier, with a new way to express yourself. Banger video! 😎👍

There's a lot to comment on - a) You pass really well as is - so why did they choose to make a video about helping to make you pass. b) Passing isn't essential - and as you say it's so much less about the specific clothes choices. c) You seem pretty confident to me - so why did they choose to make a video to pass better in to improve your confidence? d) Why would someone go out of their way to 'lecture' in fashion while dressed like they just came from a school gymnastics class? Fashion can be subjective, but maybe when you try to make money passing judgement on others, you should expect some in return. e) I'm an older and fairly non-passing trans who wants to lose some weight... if I wore a bodysuit and a skirt not only would I pass less, but I'm pretty sure I'd make people cry. f) Even if the "intent" wasn't mean I think picking someone who passes well, looks pretty, and dresses well and going to the trouble of filming, editing, and uploading a video to say "Oh no, never wear this! You'll look awful" CANNOT have as good an intent as they're lying about (either to the viewer or themselves).
